Kennedy’s Hunt Oregon
by Frank O’Leary

As the winner of the 2016 Western Region Raffle Paul Kennedy invited his group for four nights and three days of first class hospitality and hunting in Eastern Oregon.  Paul from Charleston, SC invited his father John Kennedy from Columbus, IN, his brother-in-law Charlie Wood from Highland Park, IL, and business partner David Dick also from Charleston, SC.

The foursome gathered in Seattle, WA, on Wednesday, and made the 300 mile, five hour drive, on Thursday, to the Hunt Oregon Lodge in Venson, OR (near Pendleton, OR) on the Cunningham Sheep Company (CSC) Ranch.  The accommodations were great at the converted ranch house that was the headquarters for one of the best cattle ranches in all of eastern Oregon before being acquired by CSC.  The group was met by Bobby Corey, who operates Hunt Oregon and is a fourth generation member of the family that owns CSC.  Thursday night the hunters enjoyed their first meal and night at the lodge.  Paul offered the following, “Bobby and his staff are top notch people.  The dining and lodging are excellent.”

Marianne and I know John Kennedy and he invited us to join them at Hunt Oregon to meet other members of the group.  We arrived at what is referred to as the Sheep Ranch, near Pilot Rock, just before noon when the morning hunt was finishing up.  The group had harvested eleven pheasants and was heading to lunch back at the lodge.  During the ten minute drive between the two places we saw at least eighty head of mule deer on the hills along the road.  Continue Reading....

I am Jerry Riewer from Conrad, Montana.  My wife Debbie and I have two children who are grown and out of the house.  We enjoy our two grandchildren, Duke age 3 and Aly age 2, who live close.  Their father, my son-inlaw, Chad Patterson, is my hunting partner.  We don’t get too many birds but we have a lot of fun.  Duke also comes along and is a dog handler and goose caller.

Debbie and I own and operate the Northgate Motel in Conrad, Montana.

I have been a hunter for forty years and have enjoyed bird hunting with a dog for the last ten years.  Bird hunting, with a dog, got started when a gentleman who was staying at the motel invited me to join him for a day in the field.  He had a GSP that was going to have a litter of pups.  We had a great day of hunting behind his dogs and I was hooked.

We enjoy our two K-9 partners, Hoyte von Kings Crossing (Cairo) and Sadie’s Big Sky Sunset.  Cairo has been tested and passed the Derby and AZP.  Continue Reading....
