Our speaker next week is Ross McKelvey MFIAP MPAGB FBPE EFIAP/p FIPF who will be presenting his talk: An Eclectic Mix of Award winning photography.
Ross lives in Belfast, so this will be a Zoom presentation. He is a highly successful photographer on both the national and international scene, and was awarded the FIAP Blue Badge in the recent Bristol Salon for gaining the highest number of acceptances by an entrant (this is the second year on the trot that he has won this accolade). Tonight's images will cover several genres, including portraits, nature, landscape, sport, art nude, and creative images - an evening not to miss.

Following the visit of Roger Bracewell last week I have contacted him to check out the feasibility of running a workshop in Bristol covering urban and cityscape photography. Roger has given me several weekends during April and early May and would prefer a Sunday meet.
The initial workshop would be confined to a maximum of eight people on a first-come basis and if it were to prove popular, we could always arrange a second workshop.
The cost would be £160 to be equally divided amongst the attendees..
This is a chance for members to engage in a discipline they may not have originally considered and also to receive tuition from someone who has shown excellence in this type of photography.

PSA Monochrome Interclub PDI Competition |
A good result from Round 2 of the PSA Mono PDI competition, congratulations to Derwood, Carole and Sue getting a higher HM (assuming HM stands for High Merit) than my Merit even though I got a higher score! And thanks to Colin and Pete – without your support too, we wouldn’t have had an entry.

Together this raised BPS to 6th place up from 18th ! We are now on 241 points, although a significant jump, we remain some way off Blarney, the Leader’s score on 272!
This leaves just the Nature PDIs outstanding (fingers crossed).

Documentary Photography Exhibition |

PhotoBath invites photographers and photographic artists to submit work for ‘Truth Decay’, an exhibition that interrogates the erosion of truth in contemporary society. They seek submissions that offer provocative, poetic, and critical interpretations of how truth is seen, staged, manipulated, obscured, and rediscovered in today’s world.
Submissions are open to emerging and established photographers worldwide, the exhibition will be blindly & independently curated, the deadline for final submissions is 30 May 2026.
For further info please click HERE.
The exhibition will take place in Gallery 44AD, Bath: 29 Sept - 4 Oct 2026. PhotoBath is also considering an online exhibition and a printed zine to accompany the event.

BPS member, Steve Reynolds, was awarded an SIE Medal in the recent Southampton International Salon for his colour print: Hands of Work - well done. Steve tells me that this was his 300th international award, some milestone!

Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
|
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).
|
IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes |
Please don't forget that if you change your
address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions,
it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know
so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that
you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk.
The distinctions we have on record are those
shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell
us we can't possibly know!
