A new beginning!

November 1 for the Celts was the start of the new year, a new beginning.
For me, this first of November is also a new beginning: the launch of my new company, the new name, new website and a first newsletter.
For the ancient Celts October 31 was a kind of “surplus-day”. October 30th was the last day of the previous year and October 31 was the empty gap between old and new. It was the day when the veil between this world and the other world (the realm of the spirits) opened and the spirits could gett mixed among the people. Hence the use that we know at Halloween, people hollowed out turnips or beets (later replaced by pumpkins in America) with scary faces to their doors and windows and took to the streets to make noise in an attempt to dispel the spirits.
To me the whole month of October was an intermediate period in between the old and new. My part-time job as orthopedagoge at Iona ended on September 30. Since October 1 I am completely independend. This was a revolution that to be honnest, regularly raised my biggest fears (a little like the ghosts of Halloween).
The whole month of October I have been busy creating this company: what will I do, what are my great strengths, what is "my thing", to whom I want to focus, how will I come out, how will I let the world see me?
It was a special period in which my creativity blossomed and I was challenged to go for that which I believe in and what I am good at. With the moral support of friends, family and colleagues day after day everything became clearer and this newsletter is here today.
On my bulletin board is a card I once got for my birthday with the text "Our purpose is to flower, to become the full radiance of our inner being." Jugo is my way to flower.

Jugo is Spanish for "I play". This has set the tone! With Jugo I lean upon 2 big pillars: play and silence. Both elements appeared to be the pillars on which I support the last years. In play and in silence I find my strength, I feel good, I find the joy and pleasure of life.
Both are my grips in guiding children and adults.

Immerse in the present moment

Play and silence are 2 ways to be fully present in the present moment. Why is it so important to be present in the present moment?
Have you ever noticed how wonderful it is to completely immerse into something you do? You can immerse in a creative hobby such as flower arranging, singing, acting, writing, clay work, painting, .. You can also get completely absorbed in a sport, in gardening, in sewing clothes, cooking or in solving a puzzle. There are many more of these activities. And what happens if we immerse in such an activity? We forget all the worries that wonder through our minds, day by day. The endless monologue of our thoughts about what happened this morning at work, about what was going on, what we did last weekend, what your mother has just said or what you later need to do, how this evening you will have to bustle around to get everything done in time, what you will be wearing for that party on saturday, what will you say tomorrow when you're called at your bosses office, ... Our thoughts are constantly engaged in what is past or what will come. These thoughts often lead to stress, create anxiety or unrest.
Only when we really immerse in something that we are doing, the endless stream of thoughts stops and we feel relaxed, we enjoy what we do and all worries disappear. This relaxation is worth gold. The more you can blend into the present moment and let go the stream of thought, the more you relax, the more your body settles down, the faster stress-related symptoms disappear and the more flexible you can deal with difficulties that arise in the present moment. You feel more energy, more resilient, more joy. Pain and anxiety may also occur in the present, but they are less severe, you deal with them differently.
It is no coincidence that the book "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle has become such a bestseller.

Through my work with children and adults I like to use play and silence to bring them back to the power and energy that we all have in ourselves to deal with the difficulties we encounter.
Play and silence combined result in stories. In listening to or even inventing stories, you can be completely absorbed, it's quiet in your head and creativity bubbles in you. Stories speak to us at a deeper level and reach that what withholds us to fully live in the present moment. In my work with children I like to use stories.
