Hello Friends of Dance!

We're thrilled to announce the 15th Annual "Virtual" Dance Parade Saturday, May 22nd 1PM EST. This free interactive dance festival features multiple stages in which participants can compete in dance battles, take lessons or experience a myriad of performances.

Warm regards,
Greg Miller & Team Dance Parade

We're bringing back our popular Dare-to-Dance Challenge, an open call to choreographers to submit a video that creatively reflects our theme "Dance Brings Us Together!"

Dance Parade will present three videos in our Virtual Dance Parade Saturday May 22nd starting at 1pm. We invite choreographers of all genres to tap into your creativity to come up with a minute of dance movements with your professional dance company, club, or school.

Our goal is to inspire and challenge you to connect to your dancers who are in social isolation using video technology. Each dancer can shoot a phrase or use Zoom technology to create group movements. Thanks to the generosity of Nancy Steele of STEELE DANCE three cash prizes will be awarded. Submission deadline May 7th.

OPEN CALL FOR DANCERS
Paid Teaching & Performance Opportunities

Dance Parade is pleased to invite dance organizations to perform at the Annual Dance Parade and Festival online May 22nd from 1 to 4pm EST. Our five member Curation team will award contracts and stipends to applicants who can rehearse and present work on our online Whova platform.

This free event will offer a range participatory activities on our online "Whova" platform that integrates thousands of Zoom cameras on three stages: Social, Teaching and a Grandstand Performance stage.

Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, dancers of all traditions will be spotlighted in dance battles, kids dance, tutu jams and a Grandstand Show--Not dancing? The Dance Police gang is throwing down to light up zoom cameras far and wide.

Announcing our 2021 GRAND MARSHALS

Headlining the May 22, 2020 Virtual Parade are Grand Marshals who are accomplished in the field of dance:

Latina Pop Music Legend Lisa Lisa, Dance Theatre of Harlem Artistic Director Virginia Johnson and H.T. Chen and Dian Dong, founding directors of the Chen Dance Center!

"Each of this year's Grand Marshal's embodies positive persistence in the face of both the pandemic and longer term marginalization and white supremacist ideation in the culture as well as more immediate challenges such as real estate issues and a devastating fire," notes Dance Parade’s Grand Marshal Committee Chair, DJ McDonald. "Their presence as heralds of hope and love brings a special poignancy to the 15th annual Parade's celebration of re-emergence of dance as an activity and pursuit that brings us together. Alongside these artistic/love heroes we embrace a creative approach of awareness, sensitivity, inclusion and social justice in the nascent post-pandemic moment."

 Our COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Programs
end with performances in the Virtual Parade!

Dance Parade’s Community Engagement Programs allow participants of all ages – from schools to community and senior centers – discover their own innate capacity for the communication of ideas, thoughts, and feelings through the medium of dance.

This year we're offering 13 virtual residencies throughout NYC and beyond.  Participants in Dance Parade’s Community Engagement Programs have the unique opportunity to culminate their programs in the annual parade.

Join us for our weekly two public classes on Zoom:

Tuesdays at 4pm-5pm EST: Joy of Salsa with Marlon Mills (adults)

Not seeing something that interests you?  Check back as our list of class offerings continues to grow!

If your school or community center is interested in one of our programs or if you are interested in becoming one of our Teaching Artists, contact our
Community Engagement Director Carlye Eckert at Carlye@danceparade.org

If you are an individual artist or cultural worker in New York City in need of relief, please apply.
The application will close on Friday, March 5th at 9:00 p.m.
