Next week, in place of the originally scheduled Chairman's Evening, Pete McCloskey and John Chamberlin will be showing a retrospective of work by Barry Mead.
Many of our newer members will only have seen the distinctive creative images produced by Barry in recent years (who can forget those penguins that seemed to keep popping up in the most improbable of situations), however, he was more than just a "one trick pony", having also been an extremely successful landscape and natural history photographer. This broad depth of skill led to Barry gaining the FIAP distinction EFIAP/d4, which required him to have gained 350 awards in 25 different countries with a minimum of 100 different images in international exhibitions - no mean feat by any standards.

PDI Competition - Round 1 |
The closing date for Round 1 of the Projected Image Competition is next week, 2 September, when the prescribed topic will be Architecture. The judge for this round is Maria Leekblade, DPAGB, LRPS, AFIAP from Lymington Camera Club in the New Forest.
The optional Prescribed topic for Round 1 of the BPS bi-monthly PDI competition is Architecture, which is also the topic for the current round of the Amateur Photographer of the Year Competition. You see entry details and get a free entry code for APOY in the feature in this newsletter, so why not submit your architecture image and boost BPS's chances in the Club ranking? The closing date for this APOY round is September 14.

Some sad news for many of the older members - past BPS Chairman, Nick Ayers, died at home on 11 August, after having suffered a long period of ill health. Nick joined BPS in 1993 and remained a member until ill health forced him to leave in 2024.
Nick held several posts within the Society, namely:
- Print Competition Secretary 1998-2000
- Deputy Chairman 2003-05
- Chairman 2005-07
The funeral will take place at 11.15am on Wednesday 11, September at Canford Crematorium, Westbury on Trym, BS9 4QY, and afterwards at the Beehive, Wellington Hill West, BS9 4QY. For catering purposes, would anyone wishing to attend the wake please let Cheryl Ayers know in advance, if possible by 2 September please? (01174 012416 / 07792 567864 or cheryl.ayers@me.com) and also if you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements.
