Join Our CERT Program Today!
The City of Laurel is pleased to announce that the City of Laurel, in conjunction with Delmarva Search and Rescue, will hold an intensive Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Class September 26 and 27, 2015. Classes will be from 8:00am – 4:00pm each day at the Laurel Municipal Center, located at 8103 Sandy Spring Rd., Laurel, MD 20707.

The CERT program provides special training that enhances the ability of residents to prepare for, mitigate against, respond to, and recover from a major emergency or disaster situation.

The program prepares citizens to help themselves, their families and their neighbors in the event of an emergency.

This class provides the participant the opportunity to serve their communities by joining CERT organizations, like the Laurel CERT Team, upon completion of the class.

The CERT Class will be limited to 35 participants on a first come, first serve basis. There is no fee, but you are asked to check and make sure you are able to attend all the classes since seating is limited and the classes fill up quickly. If you are interested, please call Lena Grant at 301-725-5300 ext. 2242 or email her at lgrant@laurel.md.us.

City Offices Closed On Labor Day
Monday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, and Tuesday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. There will be no change to Wednesday’s refuse or recycling collection.

There will be no Residential Special Pickup or Yard Debris collection the week of September 7, 2015. The next collection date will be on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. You can schedule a Residential Special Pickup and Yard Debris Pickup by e-mailing dpw@laurel.md.us, using the MyLaurel App or calling the Department of Public Works at 301-725-0088.

I would like to remind everyone that City Code does not allow refuse or recycling to be placed out to the curb for collection until after 7:30 p.m. the night before the scheduled collection. City Code also states that all refuse and recycling containers must be returned by 7:30 p.m. the day of the collection to either your garage or placed in the rear of your home. To do so earlier on the day before collection or later on the day of collection, is a violation of City Code and subject to citation.

The City also asks that you please make sure your refuse and recyclables are secured from blowing away in high wind situations.

Thank you for your cooperation and we wish you a safe and happy Labor Day.
