Rulo's newest Tip of the month, just uploaded.

Although sailing is a gentlemen's sport, we would have a very hard time enjoying racing without knowing that there is a group of volunteer jury members, ready to spend full days at the race site. They help racers resolve right of way conflicts.
There are more and more situations though*, when 'on water umpires' have to signal at once, which boat has infringed rules. This becomes  especially tricky  when boats alter their course, thus "switching" from one rule to another. Deciding right on the spot, when the sequence began, is a major challenge sometimes leading to a "bad call".
Currently sailors do not have much say in this matter, so we decided to concentrate on situations that sailors can control their interaction with the umpires.
Rulo's newest tip of the month, reminds us of the details of rule 42 downwind.  The video clip was made, after we heard IJ Eric Melbaum from the Netherlands, explaining to sailors in one of our clinics here, what grabs the attention of the jury on the water.

Over rocking, or rolling, can sometimes
have bigger consequences, as seen above.

* In the Laser class umpires are used in medal races, and they become active in case of gross infringements, like knowingly touching a mark, foul language, intimidation, and when sailors break rule 42.
