State owned companies have all recently undergone a name change. In terms of the Companies Act, No 71 of 2008, criteria for names of companies, the name of SABS Commercial must be denoted as "SABS Commercial (SOC) Ltd" to indicate that it is a state-owned company. SABS’s business registration number will remain the same and there will be no need to re-issue contracts or change banking details.

Question) A client has been given a nonconformity which he/she cannot correct in the current financial year. Does it remain open and mean he/she cannot achieve certification until rectified?
Answer) The certification body will evaluate if the nonconformity poses a food safety risk based on that they will decide if the corrective evidence given :
1) Manages the risk in the interim.
2) There is a plan to address the nonconformity
3) The Root Cause analysis identifies the actual cause.
This could need an onsite verification to confirm or will be verified at the next audit.
The client can still be certified based on a postive outcome of the above.
Certification Scheme Changes
BRC version 6 introduced as from January 2012. ( SABS is accredited to the BRC Global Standard for Food )
New version of FSSC 22000 (version 6) has been introduced for 2012. You can in the interim still apply for certification.
The British Standards Institution, the developer of PAS 220:2008, has withdrawn PAS 220. PAS 220 is replaced by ISO/TS 22002-1. FSSC 22000 already accepts ISO/TS 22002-1,but will now implement a full transition. As the content of ISO/TS 22002-1 is technically the same as the PAS 220 this transition is simple.
