NEW! 2008 Summer Knitting Retreat in lovely Point Reyes
Begins Friday, June 13th
We have found a great location--the beautiful Point Reyes Hostel, just an hour and a half north of San Francisco. We will enjoy exclusive use of the hostel's bunkhouse the evening of Friday, June 13th through the morning of Sunday, June 15th.
On Friday and Saturday nights, we'll have knitting clinics to which everyone can bring their current project. Saturday before classes we'll have an outing to Point Reyes Station to sample not only the local yarn but the local gastronomic delights--and perhaps pick up fixings to make some meals in the hostel's completely outfitted professional kitchen.
Cost for the retreat will be approximately $190, which includes 8 hours of instruction and a bunk of your own in a clean, cute bunkhouse situated on a hill in Point Reyes, 2 miles' easy walk to the beach. The retreat will be limited to 12 students.
Research has shown that the writing process is useful as a therapeutic tool for people living with medical conditions. This unique writing workshop is designed for those with healthcare concerns who would like to share their experience through writing. Dr. Abby Caplin, a physician specializing in Mind-Body Medicine, will guide participants through a process of reflection, allowing time for writing and sharing if desired. No writing experience is necessary; just come with an open mind and a notebook. Space is limited to a maximum of eight people, so register early!
Colette Lafia is a San Francisco-based writer, spiritual director, and educator. Her book Comfort & Joy: Simple Ways to Care for Ourselves and Others offers ways to cultivate comfort and joy in daily living in a collection of forty-five vignettes. This simple, beautiful book carries the profound message that learning how to comfort is not a narcissistic pursuit, but an absolutely essential one.
Join us at BookShop West Portal for an evening with Michael Krasny, the host of KQED's most celebrated "Forum." Michael will discuss his memoir, Off Mike: A Memoir of Talk Radio and Literary Life.
