Enthusiasm for a cause sometimes warps judgment.

President's Corner

Spring is finally here and I’m not going to talk about spring cleaning but this over the next 5 weeks I do want to concentrate on Communication.  Many of us have our communication styles so ingrained that we don’t even realize the bad habits we’re engaging in. That’s why I want to draw attention to this issue give you with five tips (one each week of April) that may help you to be a better communicator – and a better note professional!  For the first of five tips –

Listen and let them know you’re listening. When someone is talking to you, do your best to actually concentrate on what they’re saying and trying to understand their point of view. Turn off – or lower the volume – on that part of you that keeps thinking of the things you want to say, and work to minimize distractions. If necessary, you can even ask them if you can go somewhere else to talk because there’s too much going on around you.  But that’s not enough. If you truly want to have a good conversation where both of you feel like you’re part of it and that the other person cares, you need to use physical cues. Look each other in the eyes, and emotionally engage in what they’re saying – smile or laugh at jokes, frown at negative things, and nod or shake your head when it’s called for. Reacting tells someone you’re actually hearing their words.

Remember, Success Demands Action! Keep on marketing, it’s going to work! TWITA!

Cultivating Referral Sources

Referral sources can be a consistent source of leads if you learn to cultivate them properly. When developing your own network of referral sources, whether it is attorney’s, accountant’s, real estate agents, financial planners or whomever you are focusing on it may take some time. They may not initially understand what you can do for them or for their clients.... Read More...

Question of the Week

Q - Hi Jeff,

If you were to fish for larger notes, where would you go? Do the banks take your calls relating to notes on their balance sheet that they might be forced to get off of their books?

                                                                      ~ Jim

A - Hi Jim!

Thanks for the email! To answer your questions, I wouldn't (fish for larger notes) and I don't (contact banks), although they probably would take my call.  I have a niche that we have been working in since 1991 and I do not stray. Once in a while people contact me with things that I refer out to others that may be interested and I will definitely keep you in mind. Hope this helps!

                                          ~ Jeff
