Katie's Korner...
Dear Summer Sing,

My Suzuki chorus work is done! The groups were really wonderful this week, the final concert went well, and now it feels as though my summer has actually begun. I'm writing this on Saturday morning. Today I will go to two grad parties, buy my son Max a birthday present (because he is turning 20 in two days! How did this happen?)...and best of all I will not go to the grocery store! While working a regular weekday job, I always go to the grocery store on weekends so that we have food for the week, and if we run out of something, it usually just waits until the next weekend. Now I can go anytime I want! I won't have to fight the crowds of other working people trying to stock up for the week! It's not in the same category as jumping in the lake or hiking or going on a road trip, all of which I also plan to do, but I really appreciate these small joys of being on vacation.

Ad Astra was very exciting at rehearsal this week! As I've mentioned, this is my first time working on this song. It is really lovely, and I'm enjoying thinking through the connections between the chords and melodies and rhythms and the meaning of the words. I've also really enjoyed the different dynamics you are bringing to each section. We'll work again on that humming section next week and work to make those transitions more seamless.

I hope you all have a wonderful week until I see you again!

All the best,
Katie

Gibbons Youth Scholarship - Results...
Thank you all for your generous donations to the Gibbons Scholarship for Youth.  We raised a total of $230.  The total raised from all choruses was $610 and the scholarships will be awarded this coming fall.

You may also make a donation to the Gibbons Scholarship, a specific chorus or as a shared donation.  Go to our website support page at https://acithaca.org/help-keep-the-music-coming/

Family and Friends Concert...
Our last rehearsal on July 31st will be our free Family and Friends Concert followed by a “Snacks to Pass” reception.  It will be a chance for you and our guests to eat, mingle, chat.  So…it will take a group effort to make this happen.

As was announced at last week's rehearsal, we will hold the concert in our rehearsal room and not in the Sanctuary.  Last week, the Sanctuary temperature was 86 degrees and there is little chance that condition will improve.  I spoke with the pastor of St. Paul's this morning and she has cleared to way for us to use the dining room rehearsal space.

Here are the tasks for the party - works best if several people work together:
  • Set up for the concert
  • Organize food that members bring in on the tables
  • Cleanup at the end of the event
Set-Up - we need 6-10 people to come in early (6:00 PM) to move pianos and set up chairs.  Once the concert is over, we will need to pick up all the chairs and return the pianos to the place we found them.

About the food - think munchies, snacks, finger foods, drinks, treats and dessert type items (non-alcoholic).  If it is something that needs to be refrigerated during the concert, we do have access to limited space in refrigerator in the church kitchen (not a lot of space). It is best if the food can be picked up with a utensil and not your fingers.  We do not have access to any serving utensils in the church pantry, so please provide your own. Please make a label with food ingredients if you are preparing a dish so that anyone with a food allergy does not have a problem.

Cleanup -  We wish to keep the waste as close to zero as possible.  We ask that you take your leftover food, dishes and utensils home with you.  Perhaps, some may wish to bring some take-home containers for the leftovers.  Think recycle!

Nonconsensual Olfactory Overload..

Please remember to avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, essential oils and other scents to rehearsals and performances as they create respiratory discomfort for some of our singers.  Please do shower, however 😁
