Annex welcomes Chino Amobi + Szare + Roster update: Acre / Batu's Timedance / Endgame / IVVVO / Jesse Osborne Lanthier |
At the head of a critical year for new music, Annex is proud to welcome NON's Chino Amobi & Szare to Jacob's roster. Read on for biogs and updates on Acre, Batu and his Timedance label, ENDGAMƎ, IVVVO and Jesse Osborne Lanthier.
CHINO AMOBI

Born to Nigerian parents and based in Virginia, USA, Chino Amobi - alongside his counterparts, Congolese-Belgian, Nkisi, and Portuguese-South African, Angel Ho - forms NON: a collective of African artists, and of the diaspora, using sound as their primary media, to articulate the visible and invisible structures that create binaries in society, and in turn distribute power.
NON's collective voice cut thru all the noise in 2016, demanding worldwide attention to a wave of interrelated sounds which they boldly defined on their own terms. Key releases such as Chino's Airport Music for Black Folk and his Izlamic Europe collaboration with Rabit wove music and politics in a way other artists of his generation often don't dare, exemplifying his strengths in providing unified themes and subversive insight to the wider consciousness at a time when, as ever, racial issues are central to the public debate and need to be addressed across society in music and the arts.
Chino epitomises the NON ethos; from his role as selective, consummate hyperconnector - linking w/ Yves Tumor, Elysia Crampton, Rabit a.o; to the way he diffuses and solidifies their corporate-baiting aesthetic in muzak-ripping ambience and hyperreal collages of noise and R+B. His output has given shape and colour to NON's output and brought their manifesto into practice at shows including Boiler Room at MoMA and Unsound, Krakow.
Recently Chino has played a core part in staging NON Worldwide: The Great Disappointment, featuring Ligia Lewis, Nkisi, Angel-Ho, Embaci, and DJ Lady Lane in a 3-day takeover of Haus der Kulturen der Welt for CTM festival, Berlin, as well as various, as yet-unannounced live actions.
Summer commencing, we invite your live booking enquiries for one of this year's most thrilling, visionary artists.

JESSE OSBORNE LANTHIER
Contemporary electronic musician, visual artist and designer Jesse Osborne Lanthier is one of the most exciting actors in his field right now. Over the last year, his amorphous style has persistently subverted and warped the contours of modern dance music and avant-garde disciplines on releases on Halcyon Veil, Cosmo Rhythmatic, Where To Now? and Raster-Noton.
He's just dropped the glaring Unalloyed, Unlicensed, All Night EP on Raster-Noton, which was conceived in only two hours before a performance in Paris; serving elements of the best taste of his current live show. Tiny Mix Tapes and XLR8R showed it some love here and here, and we can expect much more press coverage, interviews and features in The Wire, RA, and Thump as well a recent Solid Steel mix.
Check out his latest for NTS and Radar mixes here, and here and keep an ear out for Jesse's upcoming collaboration with v1984, an eloquent series of releases with Bernardino Femminielli as Femminielli Noir, an EP and remix in the works for Milan-based Haunter Records and plenty more secret projects focusing on Halcyon Veil.
Jesse's repertoire extends from solo - DJ sets, Live, A/V, Talks and installation - to special collabs (live, installation and DJ) with v1984, Grischa Lichtenberger, and in Femminielli Noir. Please contact Jacob for more details.
