On Our Own Again, Transforming the Future

To all attending the Alternatives 2018 conference,

We are very excited about this year’s conference. We are going back to our roots by holding the conference on a college campus for the first time in decades. We appreciate a more intimate setting and more freedom of expression.

We are regularly updating the website with information on the conference, directions to the campus, the latest workshop schedule, keynotes, etc.

Check in
We want to be sure you have some general information.
Check in for the dorm rooms and the Conference will be at the Pryzbyla Center Information Desk on Catholic University of America campus. Those with reservations should have received a welcome email from the University today. If you did not receive one, please reply to this email. There are still single and double rooms available. As you know, the dorms are not hotel rooms and you will be given a set of sheets to make your bed, as well as a towel, and soap.

You may check in anytime the Pryzbyla Center is open: 7 am to 10 pm. The Pryzbyla Center will stay open until 1 am on July 29 and midnight on July 31. If you arrive at a time the Pryzbyla Center is not open, you may call 202-319-5200 and someone will come to meet you.

The Edward J Pryzbyla University Center is a searchable location on your GPS. However, if you are using an Uber/Lyft Service, cab, or driving by yourself, please place McMahon Parking Lot in your GPS as it will direct you to the front of the Pryzbyla Center.

**Service Dog
If you are bringing your service animal to the conference, the University would like to know in advance. Please respond to this email and we’ll give you information about how to contact the University.

ADA needs
We hope that with your registration you indicated any ADA needs. If you could send an email to let us know of your needs, we will be sure we are ready to accommodate you.

Parking
If you are driving and parking on campus, the cost is $8 per day or $37 for the week. If you reserve a campus dorm room, you can purchase parking passes when you make your reservation (and they will be given to you on check in). If you are not staying in the dorms, you may purchase as many day parking passes as you need when you come to the conference check in.

Meals
The first meal is dinner on Sunday anytime from 5-7 pm. We will have three meals a day from Sunday evening (July 31) through Friday breakfast (August 3). Our meals will be in the student dining room where we will have many choices. You can get an idea of the variety of food offered at this link: https://cua.campusdish.com/LocationsAndMenus/StudentRestaurantNew

After Sunday dinner there are no scheduled activities. You can walk around campus, hang out in spaces in the Pryzbyla Center, or explore the city. If you arrive before Sunday dinner, the on-campus dining will not be open; there are multiple eateries across the street on Monroe St.

This year’s conference includes Hill Day on July 31, with advocacy training on July 30.  The official Alternatives conference begins on Tuesday at 4 pm with the Newcomer Orientation that everyone is invited to, Dinner from 5-7 pm, and the Opening Welcome and keynote talks at 7 pm. Alternatives continues through Friday morning, ending with the closing session from 10:45 – 11:30 am.

We look forward to seeing you in DC soon!
