Situation Vacant - Temporary Mr/Mrs Mop Wanted |
Most of you will not know that, since the cleaner’s contract was terminated last September, Richard Kay has been cleaning Unit 13. However, Iceland & Arctic Foxes beckon and Richard will be away from Wednesday 18 February until he can resume duties after 21 March. We are unlikely to get a suitable contract cleaner for these weeks so is there anyone who would be prepared to step in for the time Richard is away? It would involve keeping the kitchen tidy, mopping up any spillage in the coffee area, a little vacuuming and keeping an eye on the toilets.
It would also help if you would all take care not to drop biscuit crumbs (a carpet sweeper is available behind the computer desk, so no need to untangle Henry). If you’re leading or attending any of the sessions other than Wednesday, could you please make sure that any crockery used is washed and put away and the kitchen left tidy

ENTRY CLOSES END OF NEXT WEEK!
There are still only a dozen members who have entered - this is your chance to dabble in the world of international exhibitions, and will give you the chance to see just how good your images are, with the added bonus that it will cost you the grand sum of Beggar All, so come on, give it a go - you've got nothing to lose! Entry to the 2026 Bristol Salon closes 1 February, now is the time to be getting your images together ready to make your entry. Remember that, with the exception of distance and temporary members, entry is free.
When making your entry you need to use the same email address that we have recorded against your membership. If you use a different email address the entry system will not recognise you and calculate an entry fee. Should this happen, do not pay but contact me ( chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk) and I will remove the entry fee.
If you are entering prints then:
- There will be a box on the stage at Unit 13 to collect your entries.
- The entry system will ask what to do with your prints after selection is complete. The options will be:
- Forward them to the Midland Salon (no postage charge),
- Destroy them
- Hold for collection
- Return by post (for which there is a charge)
- Any prints that are not accepted where you have selected to ‘Hold’ or ‘Return’ will be available for collection at Unit 13 soon after the selection takes place. Accepted prints will be retained for display at Unit 13 and possibly other venues. These will be available to pick up at Unit 13 later in the year.
- If you marked them to be destroyed by mistake then I will try to pick them out and return them, but it is possible that some may be missed.
- Any prints marked to be forwarded to the Midland Salon will not be returned to Unit 13 unless you contact me to ask for them.
Remember prints should be on A3 or A4 paper. Do not trim the paper to the size of the actual image.
Looking forward to collecting your entries (very) soon.

Masters of Print
You may recall this was open for entries over Christmas. We’ve already announced that Derwood Pamphilon gained an acceptance into the exhibition (congratulations again). In addition there is a Salon de Refuse (posh name for the best of the rest) which are to be made available to clubs to book, and I’m pleased to learn that Sue O’Connell gained acceptance into this for her image “Shock and Awe”. Well done.
Overall, 9 members took part entering a total of 40 images. Sadly, the results weren’t sufficient to secure any trophies, BPS coming second overall in the Gold Club award for the best support for the competition tied with Dumfries Camera club in terms of scores, but losing out on the top spot as they mustered 50 images overall. As for the Diamond awards for the highest achieving club, Dumfries won that as well, with 10 accepted images, Dorchester finished 8th with 5 acceptances and we were somewhat lower .
GB Trophy and GB Cup
These are another set of prestigious competitions. There is both a nature and open section competing for the Cup (PDIs) and Trophy (Prints). What sets these apart from other competitions is that whilst the club can enter 40/50 images, only the top 12 (or more in the case of a tiebreaker) count. This therefore affords the opportunity to submit a wider range of images that may not fit the ‘normal’ salon entries. The competition closes in March and we’ve not yet made the BPS selection – however, if anyone has any images not previously entered into club competitions (Mike has those) feel free to send Mike copies of any that you might wish to have included in the selection pool.
