Manou Gallo the queen of Afro Groove

The Ivory Coast bassist and percussionist Manou Gallo originally came to Europe to play with the “afropella” group Zap Mama. After several years with the band, her solo career kicked off with the album Dida (2005). She has also been the subject of a musical documentary, “Femme de rythme/Rhythm Gal” (2007) and her third album “Lowlin” was released in Europe early 2010. She has received the MTV Africa price of “Best performing artist of Ivory Coast 2009”.
Manou has given over 100 concerts in the greatest European festivals: Afro Pfingsten Festival in Winterthur (Switzerland), Africa Festival in Stockholm, Nattjazz Festival (Norway), Africa Festival, Wurzburg, Topicana World Festival (Austria), Couleur Café, Brussels, Francofolies de Spa, Francofolies de Montréal, Nice Jazz Festival...
After being a singer, bass player, percussion player and dancer, Manou Gallo turned into a brilliant band leader. The stage is like her second home and she pays a lot of attention to her live performance. She brings African music in a very inventive and modern way. For the music, she has been inspired by the Djiboi (people of the Ivory Coast Manou’s homeland), but also by her current western musical culture. The combination of soul, funk and blues is within the concept of groove a common denominator. World hot music full of emotion and sensitivities expressed in various languages.
