Dear All,

Our sincere apologies again about the recent technical issues we have experienced that have affected both our telephone lines and the sending of our weekly newsletters. We have been working hard with the providers of these services to resolve the issues which we hope to now have sorted. We would like to thank you again for your patience and understanding which we appreciate may have been as frustrating for you as it has been for us.

BREAKING NEWS

Have You Completed Your Short Breaks Monitoring Form?
Parent carers of children and young people who have accessed the Payment or COMBO option of the 2023-24 Short Breaks Scheme will have received a communication from Wiltshire Council end July/August 2023 with a link to the online Short Breaks Monitoring Form.

The 2023-24 Short Breaks Scheme will close for all applications on Tuesday 31st October 2023. We are therefore urging anyone who received the Short Breaks Payment or COMBO option and not yet completed their Monitoring Form to do so as soon as possible, and no later than 31st October, so they receive their second payment. We also strongly recommend that you take and keep a screen shot of the confirmation of your submission, as evidence that you completed your Monitoring Form before the closing date.

Completed your Monitoring Form but not Received Your Second Payment?
Please contact the WPCC before 31st October so that we can look into this for you.

Need Help to Complete Your Monitoring Form?
Please contact the WPCC before 31st October so that we can support you.

You can contact the WPCC by phoning: 01225 764647 or emailing: reception@wiltspcc.co.uk

Can you Nominate the WPCC for a chance to win £1,000?
The Movement for Good Awards is an annual programme of giving. This year, they will be giving over £1million to charities and good causes – with your help.

You can nominate a registered charity, not-for-profit organisation or community interest company in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands or Isle of Man for a £1,000 award.

You can nominate as many charities as you like – it’s one nomination per charity, per person. The more nominations a charity gets, the greater their chances of winning, so please spread the word! It only takes a minute and if we are successful, we could use the win for something special for parent carers in Wiltshire.

Simply click HERE to nominate the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council. When you search for the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council, you are unlikely to find us listed; if this is the case, simply tick the ‘Registration Exempt’ box. Under Charity type, please select ‘Disability’.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Have Your Say

Children and Young People's Emotional Wellbeing & Mental Health Support Services - Survey for Parent Carers
Wiltshire Council is reviewing its services designed to support children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

As part of this review, the Council wants to seek the views of children, young people and their families/parents/carers. They are looking to gather these views via engagement sessions in partnership with Wiltshire Parent Carer Council, to understand how current provision may or may not be meeting the emotional needs of children and young people with additional needs.

They are interested in understanding better where the gaps in service provision are, and are seeking ideas and thoughts as to how they can reduce and remove these gaps, and ensure accessible services are available for all.

We are also looking for parent carer volunteers to participate in a co-production commissioning working group in the future.  You can register your interest at the end of this survey.

Please click HERE to take part.

This survey will close at 5pm on Sunday 26th November 2023.

Have Your Say on the Future of Bus Services in Wiltshire
Wiltshire Council is asking public transport users, residents, businesses and visitors in the county to have their say on the future of bus services and other public transport options.

People's comments will help to inform the Council's draft Public Transport Policy.

The Public Transport Policy aims to: -

  • Ensure that residents can access essential facilities and services using public transport, promoting a high quality of life for all.
  • Encourage residents to choose public transport for their daily journeys to and from work, reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
  • Provide reliable and convenient public transport options for visitors to Wiltshire, enabling them to explore the county's attractions without relying on private cars.

The consultation provides an opportunity for people and organisations to voice their opinions, share their experiences, and propose ideas that will help shape the future of sustainable public transport in Wiltshire.

The consultation ends at 23:59 on Friday 10th November 2023. To find out more and to take part in the survey, please click HERE.

General Feedback (see attached form)

If you have any general feedback you would like to share, please telephone us on: 01225 764647 or send an email to: admin@wiltspcc.co.uk. Please be assured that when we share feedback with services, we never identify the person who gave the feedback, unless we have their consent to do so.

When sharing your feedback, it is often helpful to know:-

  • Which part of Wiltshire you live in? (North, South etc.)
  • How old your child/young person is?
  • Consent to share your contact details? (optional) This is so we can work with service providers to address issues with you individually.

You may prefer to complete the attached feedback form, send us an email or call us to give your feedback.

Cerebra free webinar: Diagnostic overshadowing
Diagnostic overshadowing presents a significant challenge for parents and carers of children with intellectual disability. Challenges and concerns may be attributed very broadly to their child’s intellectual disability or primary diagnosis, without careful consideration of alternative explanations that may be important for understanding the person’s individual support needs. In this webinar, we will consider the issue of diagnostic overshadowing in relation to several different issues including autism and challenging behaviour.

Join Cerebra on Tuesday 21st November 6.00pm-7.30pm for a free webinar on understanding and reducing diagnostic overshadowing for children with genetic syndromes associated with intellectual disability.
