Big Ideas Brewing for Youth Entrepreneurs

07 Jul 2016

Young entrepreneurs are invited to learn skills for developing and marketing their innovative ideas at the Northern Beaches Council’s Young Minds BIG ideas weekend.

Northern Beaches Council Administrator, Dick Persson said this unique youth entrepreneur weekend has the potential to positively change the lives of participants, as well as the lives of others in their community.

“This event will provide young people from the Northern Beaches an opportunity to be coached, mentored and skilled up by some of Australia’s leading social entrepreneurs,” said Mr Persson.

The conference goes from 29 – 31 July and will feature keynote speaker Chris Varney, whose social enterprise the “I CAN Network” empowers young people - and was launched on the back of a TED talk that went viral.

Conference participants will learn about the social entrepreneur model, how to create a lean start-up, create a digital marketing strategy and develop a winning pitch.

Mr Persson said the idea came about from consulting with local young people and members of the community who are passionate about creating unique opportunities that recognise the strengths and talents that young people have to offer.

“Research from Graduate Careers Australia, indicates that 32% of young people have a hard time in finding full-time work after university and as a result young Australians are creating their own businesses and becoming young entrepreneurs.

“We believe that becoming a young entrepreneur should be an opportunity for everyone. Some of the greatest ideas, innovations and businesses come from young people,” added Mr Persson.

The conference is open to young people aged between 16 and 22 who are invited to apply at www.youngmindsnb.com.au. Apply by Sunday 17 July.
