Annual Projected Image Competition |
This is advanced warning that the closing date for the Annual Projected Image Competition is just around the corner - 29 April, when the judge will be Judge: Eddy Lane ARPS DPAGB EFIAP APAGB.
Annual Projected Digital Image Competition This competition consists of the usual Club, Intermediate and Advanced levels. In addition, there is a Nature section which does not distinguish between Club, Intermediate and Advanced entrants but is open to all. Anyone wishing to enter the Nature section must indicate the entries with the appropriate identification, letter Y, in place of the level letter.
Members may submit a maximum of 4 PDI images into each entered section. These must be numbered in the entrant’s preferred order, as some images may be excluded if the total entry is excessive. In addition to the usual awards at each level, the judge is asked to select the Best Travel, People, Action, Landscape and Monochrome pictures from the whole entry (i.e. all levels). One or more of the Best Travel etc awards may well go to an image that gains another award. A trophy will be presented for the best image in each competition at the AGM. The trophy will be awarded for one of the 1st place images.
A full set of BPS competition rules can be downloaded HERE.

The GB Cup and GB Trophy were judged in March (the GB Cup is a Projected Digital Image (PDI) competition, while the GB Trophy is a Print competition), both are organized annually by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) for clubs. BPS acquitted themselves pretty well this year and our standings are shown below. Special praise goes to Richard Kay, John Chamberlin and Steve Taylor for gaining individual awards. See this week's PAGB eNews Extra download (elsewhere in this newsletter) for a full report on these competitions.

Jazz will return if we haven’t scared her off. Mike is still discussing what the theme will be, but one option is her interpretation of a 1900s style offering all sorts of creative opportunities. In true Blue Peter fashion here are a few Mike prepared earlier: |

Following the success/interest in the TWOsday shoots with Kornelia, Mike will be looking to organise some more in May..... watch the newsletter later this month for details.... and respond quickly to secure a place!

A Plea From A Member - Update |
Back in February I published a plea from Pete Davis, one of our newer members, who requested advice on an upcoming trip to Antarctica (lucky beggar!) - sadly there was no advice forthcoming. However, he has since had that same plea reproduced in Digital Camera magazine, with the following response:
Question: “I’m lucky enough to be taking a flight over Antarctica in November and have recently taken a photography course and upgraded my camera to the Nikon Z6iii to prepare for this once in a lifetime experience. I hope to take some great shots but know that snow photography can be challenging, so what would be your top tips for successful photos of large white expanses of ice and snow taken through the windows of an aircraft cruising at about 6000 feet?”
Digital Camera replies: “Two things are going to be immediate problems. Firstly, the reflections off the inside of the cabin window and secondly, the reflective nature of what you’re shooting. For the first point, either press your camera up against the window and try to shield it, or use a circular polariser to try to cut the reflections out. Secondly, as all that snow will cause underexposure, try dialling in +1EV exposure compensation. Also, the auto-focus might struggle, so turn it off and manually focus yourself."
If anyone has anything they can add to this advice, please let me know and I will forward it on to Pete.
