Leith Hill Action Group – Newsletter 24 (13th January 2014)

Stop the Leith Hill oil drilling!

Happy new year to all our supporters! I hope that you had some enjoyable time off over the holiday period.

LHAG Black Tie Dinner

Since the last newsletter, we held the LHAG Black Tie Dinner.  This raised a marvellous £1,455 in profit.

We have to say an enormous thank you to everyone that helped in advance, on the night and cleaning up afterwards, as well as to all those who donated raffle prizes.  It certainly could not have been done without this army of support!  And of course, a big thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, came along and enjoyed themselves and helped make the evening such a success.

Funding position

We are delighted to be able to tell you all that we have now met our initial fundraising target of £25,000.  We are continuing to raise money, however, because more funds mean that we can afford more time with our barrister.  History has also taught us that it makes sense to fundraise as much as possible; in any case, our constitution means that donors will receive refunds if it turns out that we have excess.

Battle lines are drawn...

We are now looking ahead to the appeal itself, which will be on either 30th April or 1st May.  To prepare for this, we are rehearsing our arguments and will be running through the legal technicalities with our barrister in March.  The skeleton arguments were submitted last year, so now it is a matter of fleshing it out and ensuring we have covered every last detail.

As ever, thanks for reading.
