CALL FOR VILIFICATION PROTECTIONS TO ACCOMPANY NAZI BAN
NATION MUST FOLLOW A.C.T. LEAD ON INTERSEX HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTIONS

Just.Equal Australia says the Federal Government's ban on Nazi symbols must go further to include Nazi salutes and that preventing hate speech also requires a national LGBTIQA+ vilification law.

Spokesperson Brian Greig said,

"The federal government's proposed Nazi symbols ban would not have stopped the infamous Nazi salute on the steps of the Victorian Parliament during an anti-trans rally, nor will it curtail the waves of hate speech we are seeing against trans and gender diverse Australians."

"Australia needs a comprehensive Nazi ban that includes Nazi salutes, and it also needs national legislation protecting LGBTIQA+ people from vilification."

Mr Greig went on to welcome the ACT's new law protecting the human rights of people with innate variations of sex characteristics in medical settings.

"We call on other states and territories and the federal government to follow the ACT's lead."

"The human rights of Australians with innate variations of sex characteristics must be protected across the nation."
