Soooooooo … another person who came to Dearly Departed Tours died. We’re starting to develop a complex around here. Anthony Bourdain filmed a segment with us for his show The Layover. He was well interested (and well versed!) in the topic, funny and just a genuinely nice guy. It’s sad to see him go.
When he was in the office, he took pictures with the staff and signed an autograph for the shop—check out the sentiment he wrote at the bottom of the poster.
do do do do. do do do do. do do do do...
If you’d like to watch some of the segment that appeared on the show, you can
watch it here.
Rest in peace Anthony. You were a good guy. You also had the good sense to die in France so we can’t put you on the tour. Checkmate.
We have some news about the Dearly Departed Weekend! Things have really started to shape up.
We’re kicking off the weekend with a Friday afternooon tour of Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Our friend Karie Bible is leading the tours and she is *the* leading expert on the cemetery. Plus her birthday is on Halloween and she's got that weird eye thingy where they are two different colors. We HEART Karie.
On Friday evening, we’re hosting a cocktail party at Dearly Departed Tours and Museum. There will be a presentation about the Jayne Mansfield car, snacks, water and soft drinks, and a cash bar. Our featured speaker of the evening will be Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson on the classic TV show Little House on the Prairie. She can tell you all about growing up in Hollywood, what it’s like working in TV, life after TV= and who was an asshole on the set. She’s fun like that. I'm not going to name names but I think she has a couple of stories about a woman who's name sounds like Melissa Lou Sanderson. But the stories she tells. She's got a Manson connection, a Casper the Friendly Ghost connection, a Liberace connection and she's a death hag!
On Saturday night, our V Special guest speaker is Craig Harvey, the retired (I said RETIRED) Chief of Special Investigations for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. That’s the fancy way of saying he’s the recently retired LA County Coroner. He is going to share with us a couple of famous cases and then take some questions from the audience. Chief Harvey has always been supportive of our efforts and he's a great friend. You may remember him when he explained the autopsies of the Tate/La Bianca victims in our documentary
The Six Degrees of Helter Skelter. Here is a video of Craig speaking to the press about
Michael Jackson’s autopsy. Swoooooooon!
Chief Harvey and myself when we shot The Six Degrees of Helter Skelter
We have a lot more coming so please keep your eyes peeled (Please. Not literally) for news in the coming weeks. Everything will be announced in the newsletters first.
In the meantime, don’t forget the other fun stuff we have going on this summer. Tours, Jill Marie Morris is coming back, a Jayne Mansfield book signing, lots of great stuff.
Love,
Scott and the Dearly Departed Team
