Lifeina releases the LifeinaBioBag, for the safe transport of vaccines, blood and plasma

The heart is the most important organ in our body. After all, the moment the heart gives out its last beat marks the cessation of life. Yet, only 27% of hearts donated for transplants are used, because of logistical reasons. So Lifeina has launched the LifeinaHeart Project, to develop new methods for transporting human organs. Lifeina will be releasing the LifeinaBioBag on Monday 3rd of August as a first product of a series that aims to significantly reduce the shortage of organs worldwide. LifeinaBioBag is a new generation of isothermal bags developed for the transport of blood and plasma. To make the LifeinaBioBag, Lifeina developed a new generation of flexible aerogel with absolute perfect isothermal properties, keeping contents of the bag between 2 and 6°C for 72 hours. LifeinaBioBag will be available on the Lifeina website on Monday 3rd of August.

After the lockdown, holidays are coming real fast. LifeinaBox, the solution for traveling with fragile medication
This year, less airplanes and more local trips: beaches, walkabouts, camping, museums and sun...
But millions of people worldwide suffer from chronic diseases - diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's Disease, rhumatoid arthritis - or are using fragile medications such as growth hormones of fertility treatments.
For these people, traveling is often a nightmare. Indeed, all these medications are fragile and must be kept at the right temperature and sterile, whaever the destination. And it's not always easy to arrive somewhere and to find a place to keep them at the right temperature, safely, and away from the prying eyes of everyone else.

The solution is called LifeinaBox. Designed and developed in France by Lifeina, LifeinaBox is the world's smallest refrigerator, keeping fragile medication between 2 and 8°C.
It can be used for all heat-sensitive drugs: Insulin, growth hormones, adrenaline, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, interferons. It contains up to 8 pens or vials of standard injectable medication.
It is equipped with a universal AC adapter, but also comes with an adapter that plugs into the car's cigarette lighter. With a built-in battery, its autonomy is 6 hours - 12 hours if you use the optional battery pack.
In addition, the Lifeina app tracks the temperature and monitors the battery. In the car, at the hotel, at home, or even on a hike, the user always keeps control over his medication, whatever the circumstances - the internal temperature of 2 to 8 degrees is guaranteed up to an ambent temperature of 32°C. Using thermoelectric energy powered by a battery, LifeinaBox contains no dangerous gases or compressors.

The saga of LifeinaBox- Creating a perfect product

A technology driven by a personal need
It all starts in France a few years ago. Uwe Diegel awaits the visit from New Zealand of his diabetic brother, Dr Olaf Diegel. The two men have already built a strong international reputation in the field of industrial design and health and often work together on new research projects.
Olaf, diabetic since the age of 17, is professor of industrial design at the Technological University of Auckland. His work requires him to travel a lot to participate in international conferences. He is used to traveling with his insulin and keeping it cool using coolers bags.
Olaf stops at a small hotel in Provence. When he arrives, he notices that there is no refrigerator in his room to store his insulin, despite having specifically requested it. Although he does not speak French, he arranges with the hotel reception to keep it in the kitchen fridge. A few hours later, Olaf needs his insulin and goes down to the front desk to request it, and discovers that it was accidentally placed in the freezer. He is obliged to have the emergency pharmacy opened to get fresh insulin. Fortunately, the problem is solved but could have had serious consequences.
Back in Paris, Olaf tells his brother about his adventure. They decide to design a portable refrigerator using a technology that Olaf is working on: the Peltier effect. On paper, the idea should theoretically work; so they make a prototype using everything they have available at that time. The prototype works pretty well. In parallel, the two brothers do research on the market and discover that around 5% of the world population uses fragile medicines which must be kept in the refrigerator at all times. These people are in fact "prisoners" of their medication.
After two years of research, design improvements, sweat and tears, LifeinaBox is finally available to make life easier for millions of people. It has already received numerous awards including the prestigious Prix Galien and the Red Dot Award for design. |
