1500 people chose to say #nuptothecup at our official  party venue on 5th November 2024. Special thanks to The Vegan Vegout for organising and making the event such a success!

Dear Supporter,

We are incredibly proud that so many people across the country supported our Nup to the Cup campaign this year and joined the movement to make the first Tuesday of November a day we celebrate animals instead of exploiting them.

At our official party venue, Welcome to Thornbury in Melbourne, we reached capacity at 1500 people and were able to raise over $5000 from the raffle. This was shared between all of the animal protection organisations, sanctuaries and charities involved.

Despite the racing industry industry having multi million dollar advertising budgets and pay celebrities to attend their major race days as well as concerts and other entertainment to get people to attend the spring racing carnival, we continue to see more Australians than ever saying #nuptothecup, as reported in news articles by the Guardian, News.com and the ABC.

Even many pro-racing social media posts about the Spring Carnival were inundated with comments from people saying #nuptothecup and urging others to do the same. It’s a very positive sign.

On Melbourne Cup Day, animal advocates in NSW, VIC, TAS, WA, QLD and SA gathered at protests to speak up for the racehorses who didn’t have a choice but to race and risk their lives on the racetrack. And, on or around the day, people in all corners of the country chose compassion over cruelty at private lunches, at their workplace, or at some of the many public Nup to the Cup events organised to celebrate animals instead of abusing them.

We are so grateful for the growing support and opposition to the cruelty inherent in the racing industry. A massive thank you to all of you out there who helped to organise an alternative to attending or watching the races on Cup Day and to all of you who attended a #nuptothecup event. We will never stop  speaking up for racehorses and together we’re making a difference.

First they ignore you

Then they mock you

Then they fight you

Then you win.

If you have any ideas for next year or comments you would like to share, please feel free as always to email us at enquiries@nuptothecup.org Many thanks to you all for making the first Tuesday in November a day we stand with animals!
