Sing of Celebration!
Voices is in Need of a Weekly Newsletter Editor...
Voices is looking for a chorus member to take over the preparation and sending of the weekly newsletter.  Newsletter items in copy and paste text are provided each week by the chorus director, president and treasurer.  Items from any chorus member relative to Voices and the area music community may also be submitted for inclusion in the newsletter.

We use a newsletter emailing service so all that is needed is computer access to the Internet.  There is some minor formatting change necessary but otherwise no special skills are required.  Each newsletter takes one to two hours to prepare unless you want to get creative.  The editor also manages the distribution list to add and remove subscribers.

If you are interested, contact Ed Olmstead at musicinfo@acithaca.org.  Ed will work with you to transition into the editor’s role.

Rehearsal and Performance Schedule...
Rehearsals begin at 7:00 PM sharp.  Please try to be in your seat and ready to sing!

Ramblings From Ross...
Less than a month away from our performance! I for one am feeling very good about our progress, so keep up the great rehearsal work for these next few weeks.

There's a typo on our rehearsal schedule: Our normal Monday rehearsals will continue, though I accidentally labelled the dates 12/4 and 12/11. The correct (and ever so slightly updated) schedule is linked here for convenience.

Lastly, the pronunciation tracks can be found here. Keep an eye on the schedule to see which of these pieces we will be working on, and give yourself a little extra time with the corresponding tracks.

See you Monday!

-Ross

Sherrie's Soliloquy...

I can't believe how quickly the concert is approaching.  Keep up the good work and you'll be concert-ready before you know it!  The website music recordings are a great way to iron out the last of your insecurities.  Then it's just about enjoying the experience and sharing your joy with the audience. I'll be putting up posters for you wherever I go.

I do really miss being with you all but at this point I know the semester has gotten away from me. I'm feeling well but still do not have the singing voice to rejoin you. By spring semester I'll be back with bells on. 🙂

Be well, Happy singing.
Sherrie

Mike's Musings...

Concert Promotion
Posters and quarter sheets will again be available at rehearsal. If you belong to groups that post newsletters, have access to physical or electronic bulletin boards, or are seeking seasonal gift ideas for friends and family, please share info about the concert. A blurb you might use is below. Do give it your personal flair

VOICES Multicultural Chorus Fall Concert “Songs of Celebration”
3:00 pm December 15, First Baptist Church, 309 N. Cayuga St.
Singing is a vibrant and essential part of celebration across cultures and around the world. VOICES invites you to join in the celebration through a delightful repertoire including lyrics in nine languages! Freewill admission; $15 suggested.

Small but Mighty – UU Performance November 17
Our modest group attending the Unitarian service this past Sunday represented us well. You can catch the performance at the following link. Our songs are at 7:00, 37:40, and 1:07:12 in the playback. Sound pickup isn’t the best, but you will get the gist.

Practice Tracks...
Practice tracks (https://acithaca.org/groups/voices/music-files-for-practice/) by vocal part are available at the Voices website for all but one of our songs for the semester.  Mistakes do creep in during the creation of these files, so please note any you find and communicate which song, track, and measure(s) need correction.  If you can specify the correction (e.g., missing note tie, wrong note, etc.), even better. Send corrections to voicesmusic@acithaca.org

Always Bring A Pencil...
As we learn and rehearse our songs each week, we will be given notes and corrections by the directors.  You may lightly mark your scores with a pencil - not a pen, marker or highlighter.  Keep the pencil in the pocket of your music folder so it does not get misplaced.
Voice Exercises and Warmups...
Looking for a way to exercise your voice between rehearsals?  Cyberbass is free website that has sizeable list of vocal warmups that play on your computer, smartphone or tablet.  You can also purchase CD's with various exercises and warmups if you choose.  Go to

Nonconsensual Olfactory Overload...
Please remember to avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, essential oils or other scents to rehearsals and concerts.  We sit close together and some members experience respiratory discomfort when exposed to those smells and chemicals.
Showering is encouraged, of course. 😁

About the Newsletter...
The Voices Newsletter is sent out every Thursday during the semester.  Sometimes, it may be a day late depending on glitches and brain cramps.  In normal times, it will appear in your email in-basket sometime during the day on Thursday.  It will also be posted on the website - go HERE to go the that page.

If you have a question about Voices, a comment or suggestion about the newsletter, or if you have an item for the newsletter (items should be related to the chorus or the local musical community), send it to musicinfo@acithaca.org.   PLEASE - if you have an item that you want to appear in the newsletter, send in in plain text completed form so we can copy and paste - we do not write material for you.
