First, a grateful shout out to Marilyn for her indefatigable efforts on behalf of our chorus, most recently helping to organize and set up the New Member Reception at our last rehearsal. I hope that both new and returning members got to meet someone new and have an interesting conversation or two. Nametags should be available in a couple of weeks, which will make learning names all that much easier.
Behind the scenes, we will be having our next Steering Committee meeting within the next few weeks. This would be a great time for interested singers to join, as we grapple with the perennial issues of fundraising, publicity, and recruitment, not to mention the ins and outs of gearing up for a performance. If you have been thinking of how you can help the chorus, let Kate or a Steering Committee member (Allen, Betsy, Allison, Joyce, Charlotte) know and we'll give you the meeting info. To say that we could use the help is an understatement!
What we do in our chorus, creating beautiful music together, harmonizing together, creating community together, is no small thing! Conductor Robert Shaw put it like this:
“In these days of political, personal and economic disintegration, music is not a luxury, it's a necessity; not simply because it is therapeutic, nor because it is the universal language, but because it is the persistent focus of our intelligence, aspiration and goodwill.”
