Ramblings from Ross...
You may have glanced at our schedule for the semester and thought: "that's a lot of music to learn in a short amount of time!" We DO have a handful of challenging pieces to fit into our short time together, so I encourage folks to find some time over the week to listen to the youtube links prior to upcoming rehearsals. This week I suggest especially giving a listen to "Boker," "Dubula," and "Peace of Wild Things" to start getting an idea of our end goals.

And here's a reminder/announcement from Anna:

'Come support the Ithaca High School Choir at our annual Theme Concert on Thursday, March 14th at 7 pm in Kulp Auditorium. We’ll be singing and performing repertoire along the theme of Sweet Dreams. Music by Billy Joel, The Eurhythmics, Irving Berlin, and more! The concert should run about 2 hours, with a 15 minute intermission.'

See you Monday!

Sherrie's Soliloquy... on break this week

Musing from Mike...
Photos
Silvia Amigo-Silvestre will be taking candid photos at rehearsal for use on our website and social media. If you would prefer not to be included, please let Sylvia or me know.

Volunteer Needs
We still need help with social media, concert promotion, and short term tasks in preparation for our concert. The list of needs will again be available at rehearsal. Thanks Kelly, Sylvia, and David for offering your talents and help!

Practice Tracks...
Practice tracks (https://acithaca.org/groups/voices/music-files-for-practice/) by vocal part are available at the Voices website for all but one of our songs for the semester.  Mistakes do creep in during the creation of these files, so please note any you find and communicate which song, track, and measure(s) need correction.  If you can specify the correction (e.g., missing note tie, wrong note, etc.), even better. Send corrections to voicesmusic@acithaca.org

Always Bring a Pencil...
We are Learning! There will be notes and corrections by the Director during rehearsal and perhaps new insights as you practice.  You may lightly mark your scores with a pencil - not a pen, marker or highlighter.  Keep the pencil in the pocket of your music folder so it does not get misplaced.

Vocal Exercises and WarmUps...
Looking for a way to exercise your voice between rehearsals? Cyberbass is free website that has sizeable list of vocal warmups that play on your computer, smartphone or tablet. You can also purchase CD's with various exercises and warmups if you choose.  Go to

Nonconsensual Olfactory Overload...
Some members are allergic to perfumes, colognes, essential oils and other scents and they experience respiratory discomfort if exposed to them. And they will be! We sit close close together and breathe deeply at rehearsal and concerts. Please refrain from wearing them.

About this Newsletter...
The Voices Newsletter is sent out every Thursday during the semester.  Sometimes, it may be a day late depending on glitches and brain cramps.  In normal times, it will appear in your email in-basket sometime during the day on Thursday.  It will also be posted on the website - click HERE to go to that page.

If you have a question about Voices, a comment or suggestion about the newsletter, or if you have an item for the newsletter (items should be related to the chorus or the local musical community), send it to voicesnews@acithaca.org.   PLEASE - if you have an item that you want to appear in the newsletter, send in in plain text completed form so we can copy and paste - we do not write material for you.
