Hello music lovers!

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS...

Ange BoxallBeing a female-run venue, we always like to celebrate women, and we have some very talented female singer-songwriters coming up in the next couple of weeks! This Wednesday (17th July), we have a choice of two incredible artists - ANGE BOXALL’s latest album, Skipping Stone, debuted on the ARIA Country Charts at #1 and #7 for Australian Albums across all genres. It also came in at #1 on the AIR Charts for Australian Independent Records. “Now there’s a Tasmanian Devil but Ange is the Tasmanian Angel… like hearing sunshine” Jim Lauderdale. Also on Wednesday, we present highly acclaimed US artist DIANA JONES (@ The Water Rats), hailed variously in the press as the “Emily Dickinson of song,” “The lost daughter of the Carter Family” as well as a “Hillbilly Feminist”. Both excellent options!

Lucy FarrellThis Sunday night (21st July), HANNAH ROSE PLATT will be merging the sinister authorial prowess of Nick Cave and Tom Waits, with the incandescent vocals of Mazzy Star and PJ Harvey. She weaves magic into the mundane and explores beauty in the shadows, and her music has been described as “marvellous, beautiful, and moving” by esteemed author Neil Gaiman, and “powerful and affecting” by Harper’s Bazaar. Finding an international audience among artists like Emily Portman, The Weather Station, The Unthanks and Eliza Carthy, BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winner LUCY FARRELL (Monday 22nd July) is not only awarded as a renowned composer and singer, but also as viola/fiddle/tenor guitar-player. Her work as a band member and collaborator has meant releasing a collection of her distinctive solo work has had to wait – until now. “One of the most refreshing interpreters of traditional song in the UK” **** Songlines

The Niche FamilyOther upcoming Americana highlights include a Green Note debut from THE NICHE FAMILY, with their unique blend of Country, Americana and Folk melodies (Tues 23rd July), and multi-award-winning Celtic troubadour DEAN OWENS and his talented band THE SINNERS present their unique blend of Scottish roots and Americana, with added desert noir (Thurs 23rd July). And then at the end of the month Scottish singer-songwriter ROBIN ADAMS joins us - drawing inspiration from the likes of John Martyn, Nick Drake and Bert Jansch, Adams has carved out a distinctive niche in the folk singer-songwriter landscape. In the words of folk legend Ralph McTell, “If Robin had been on the circuit I was on back in the day, he would already be an underground guitar singer-songwriter star!”

Rum RaggedIf you'd like to fill your weekends with music and still make it home for dinner, we have some gorgeous matinées coming up in the coming weeks... We first discovered JUNO Award Nominees RUM RAGGED (Sat 27th July) at an international folk festival a few years ago and they totally blew us away - we are delighted to be welcoming them to our stage! They have quickly become known as the finest performers of their great, living, musical tradition, enlivening and enlightening audiences with their signature brand of Newfoundland folk. Also from Canada, we look forward to welcoming TEILHARD FROST (Sat 3rd Aug) - a multi-instrumentalist and banjo maker, specialising in traditional fiddle tunes, with a particular interest in the Appalachian Mountains. He has spent the last 20 years touring with critically acclaimed band Sheesham, Lotus and Son, and is currently touring his most recent solo album. The songs have strong ties to the British Isles while the fiddle tunes draw on ancient Scandinavian and northern Scottish modal settings and tunings, conjuring a feeling of mystery and drama. And this Saturday (20th July), we look forward to welcoming back New York's RACHAEL SAGE, who has earned a loyal international following for her dynamic piano playing, delicate guitar work, and improvisational audience interaction. A Grand Prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Sage has toured with an eclectic list of artists including Howard Jones, Beth Hart, Ani DiFranco, and Imelda May.

All this and many more great shows to come, so please do check out our events page for more details and the full line up...

ThreadedAnd if you don't have plans for tonight (Monday 15th July), why not come check out acoustic fusion trio THREADED who create and perform music inspired by world folk culture, nature, stories and personal experiences. Their original compositions fuse influences from traditional folk, contemporary classical music and world soundscapes, which has culminated in their unique and distinctive sound. Should be a special evening!

Hope to see you soon!

Lots of love,

Immy & Risa xx
