Friends Divided:
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson
Gordon Wood – SIGNED
|
|
4th of July, 1826 John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day. And it was no ordinary day. It was the Fourth of July, 1826, exactly fifty years from the date the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence, or as Daniel Webster referred to it in his eulogy of the two men, “the great day of National Jubilee.”
Arguably no relationship in America’s history carries as much freight as Adams and Jefferson. Gordon Wood, the great historian of the American Revolution, tells their story in Friends Divided, a majestic dual biography of these great men, whose partnership helped birth a nation and whose subsequent falling-out did much to fix its course.

“American Dystopia” is the first book to evaluate the historical claims that are the basis of “The Handmaid’s Tale”. Contrary to Atwood’s historical interpretations, the Puritan colonies of New England were the opposite of her fictional “Puritan” theocracy in almost every way. The Puritan legacy includes many aspects of modern America that Atwood and her followers appreciate.
America’s Puritan origins were not as Atwood describes them. Far from mistreating women, Puritans were the most gender-equal group of their time. All Puritan governments were democracies. They inclined towards religious tolerance and racial equality.
Puritans of the 1600s variety no longer walk the earth. They helped lay the foundations for American civilization and their descendants soon evolved in other directions. Puritans are not here to defend themselves. In rescuing the Puritans from Atwood’s work, this book offers a defense of American origins.

America: Imagine a World Without Her
by Dinesh D'Souza

In "America: Imagine a World Without Her", Dinesh D’Souza sets out to establish America’s continuing relevance in the world “and provide a new understanding of what America means and why America is worth preserving.” Refuting the progressives’ labeling of America as a thief, D’Souza provides context to America’s alleged crimes. This includes an examination of history by evaluating the truth of those claims. Additionally, the author asserts that “America is based upon perhaps the most important invention of all time: the invention of wealth creation.” As a result, wealth is no longer finite. Instead, it is available to those with the ingenuity and drive to obtain it. Rather than fading into the obscurity of world history, Americans have a choice. The crisis America now faces also presents an opportunity to revive the spirit of 1776.

In "The American Miracle", Michael Medved recounts some of the most significant events in America’s rise to prosperity and power, from the writing of the Constitution to the Civil War. He reveals a record of improbabilities and amazements that demonstrate what the Founders always believed: that events unfolded according to a master plan, with destiny playing an unmistakable role in lifting the nation to greatness. When millions worry over the nation losing its way, Medved’s sweeping narrative, bursting with dramatic events and lively portraits of unforgettable, occasionally little-known characters, affirms America as “fortune’s favorite,” shaped by a distinctive destiny from our beginnings to the present day.
