Next week our speaker is Tabitha Boydell, who will be presenting her talk: Finding and Sharing a Visual Voice.
In this talk Tabitha will share her personal photographic journey, exploring how her early experiences, influences and creative decisions shaped the development of her visual voice. She’ll reflect on the evolution of her photographic style, the role of styling within her work, and the importance of creating imagery that feels intentional and cohesive.

She’ll also draw on her experience as a workshop organiser, sharing the philosophy behind her events and how she supports photographers at different stages of their journey. This talk is designed to inspire, build confidence and offer practical insight - whether you are developing your own visual identity or looking to get more from the workshops and learning opportunities you attend.

The Great Western Photographic Exhibition closes for entries on 27 September, and we are already well into September. Tempus Fugit!
IT'S FREE!! Well, there are not many things in life that are free, but entry is free to all Bristol Photographic Society Members  (unfortunately not distance or temporary members  ). It is your opportunity to see how your images stack up against the best Britain has to offer (you may be pleasantly surprised) and start your journey towards the BPE photographic distinctions. You only need 25 acceptances for BPE1.
I hear some people saying, “I am not good enough!” Rubbish! This is one of the best clubs in the country and our standards are high. So don’t put yourselves down before you have had a go – it's free!

Grab me at club (carefully) if you need guidance/encouragement. There is a box on the stage for the print entries.

Distinctions Advisory Group |
The next meeting of the Distinctions Advisory Group is at 7.30pm on Monday 28 September.
The group basically meets to offer advice to members who are aiming for, or planning to aim for, RPS, WPF, IPF or PAGB distinctions, but anyone aiming for a photographic distinction is welcome.
If you are already well on the way down your chosen path or just thinking about dipping your toe in the murky waters of photo distinctions, you will be welcome. Bring along your pictures (PDI or prints) and you can receive suggestions and advice about your next step forward or just come along for general distinctions advice.
IMPORTANT
In order to determine whether it is viable to run the meeting on the 28th, the leaders need to know how many people are likely to attend. If you plan to join the meeting, or have any questions about the group, would you please email Pete McCloskey pmccloskey11@btinternet.com to let him know by Tuesday 15 September - if, by then, insufficient members have notified Pete that they wish to attend, the evening will be cancelled.

Monday 14 September, 10am-1pm: Mike is on holiday; Steve will be leading a session - we'll still playing with the new lights, Steve will bring some "Fab" hats! Fun, fun, fun!
Monday 21 September, 10am-1pm: Mike is still away; David Alderson will be opening up. Come along and see if you can put into practice some of the lessons learnt on using the new equipment.
Monday 28 September, 10am-1pm: Normal service resumes – Mike will be on hand to set a subject and possibly organise a model too. If we have a model the usual £10 contribution will be collected.

PAGB - Masters of Print 2027 |
Billed as the foremost individual Print Competition run by the PAGB, the Masters of Print is NOW open for entries. Full details are available on the PAGB website PAGB Masters of Print.
If you are unfamiliar with this, the basic details are – Individuals enter via the website above. You can submit up to five un-mounted images printed on full A3 sheets of paper (the image can be any size on that sheet). Images should be ‘new’, ie not previously accepted into an exhibition other than the Annual PAGB Inter-club Battle in October. Although you enter as an individual, there are separate Club awards for the most successful clubs in terms of overall entries by members and accepted images. BPS has won this on several occasions.
Members are free to post their own entries individually (closing date is 24 November for on-line entry), but if you want to save postage, Mike Martin will be coordinating posting a bulk entry on behalf of members, for anyone getting prints to him by Wednesday 18 November.
