On Wednesday, February 6, the Community Center for the Performing Arts proudly welcomes SunSquabi to the WOW Hall along with special guests Yak Attack.

Colorado’s instrumental electro-funk trio, SunSquabi, is touring in support of their highly anticipated new album, Instinct. Throughout 2018, the band previewed this latest collection through the debut of a trio tracks, “Caterpillar”, “Chrysalis” and “Night Moth”. The three-part series was inspired by biological evolution — a theme that remains salient across the group’s 10-track release. Instinct highlights the band’s ever-changing sound. With guitarist Kevin Donohue, bassist Josh Fairman and drummer Chris Anderson at the forefront, the album is concrete evidence of the three-piece’s maturation. SunSquabi also allows a greater focus on using heavier electronica as the record’s base while still infusing each track with the band’s characteristic take on funk and jazz. In addition to the group’s previously released “metamorphosis” series, Instinct features new songs “Land Sloth”, “Dexter’s Day Out”, “Snapping Turtle” and “Polar Bear”. The collection features special guests, including Pretty Lights turntablist, Chris Karns, Turbo Suit saxophonist, Nick Gerlach and String Cheese Incident percussionist, Jason Hann. SunSquabi just made their debut on Jam Cruise 17, and will play Phoenix’s M3F Fest in March.

Portland’s Yak Attack is a live electronica power trio founded in 2013. The band has been building buzz by touring frequently throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, and the Mountain West. Yak Attack's music is described as "organic electronica" -- using skillful playing, live loops, and tightly constructed songs. This is also combined with raw improvisation to build high-energy and uplifting dance music from scratch, where every note is played and recorded live. The band draws on influences from a wide spectrum of electronica, such as house, drum and bass, and breakbeat, along with jam, funk and jazz.
