Dear Neighbor,

Here are your February updates.
Standing Up for Dignity and Civil Rights
I proudly cosponsored a resolution reaffirming Hoboken’s commitment to compassion, constitutional rights, due process, and the dignity of everyone who lives, works, and travels through our community. In recent months, the use of excessive force, lack of transparency, and increasingly militarized federal immigration enforcement tactics, including masked agents who operate in unmarked vehicles, have caused fear and trauma in communities across the country and this month they came to Hoboken and Jersey City
This resolution, unanimously passed Wednesday evening, offered our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of Renée Nicole Good, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, and Keith Porter Jr. killed during federal immigration enforcement operations and 40 individuals who recently died in federal detention facilities on immigration charges, including Jean Wilson Brutus who died in Delaney Hall in Newark. The resolution condemns intimidation and unjustified violence, and reaffirms that Hoboken will not use municipal resources to assist in federal civil immigration enforcement except where legally required. The City Council reaffirmed our adherence to New Jersey Attorney General directives protecting all residents' civil liberties, irrespective of immigration status, and our commitment to preserving the trust between our community and local law enforcement.
Hoboken welcomes immigrants and families with mixed-immigration status who live and work here — people essential to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our community. As your elected representative, I will always speak out when our community members’ constitutional protections and dignity are threatened. Wednesday evening, the Council unanimously affirmed that Hoboken chooses compassion over cruelty, accountability over fear, and unity over division.

Snow Removal Update & Thanks for Your Patience
Over the past several weeks, Hoboken has faced ongoing snow and ice events that present real operational challenges. Weeks of sub-freezing weather, an 11+ inch snow storm, on top of additional precipitation, overnight refreezing, and limited curb space has made Hoboken’s snow removal operations far more complicated and challenging than usual.
Our Department of Environmental Services and Public Works teams have worked around the clock to plow streets, salt roadways, and clear public sidewalks and municipal facilities. We know that in some areas snow piles, icy patches, and delayed curb clearing have caused frustration. If you spot a condition that can be addressed by Hoboken’s Department of Public Works, email SanitationInspectors@hobokennj.gov, an actively-monitored account.
Shout out to Mayor Jabbour and the City Hall Communications Team for keeping a steady flow of helpful updates and important information to our community these past weeks. If you haven’t subscribed to Nixle, you should. It is the best source of timely updates on important issues affecting snow operations, street cleaning, and much, much more. You can also check out the City’s social media pages for regular content, where members of the public’s comments are addressed and actively engaged by the City’s communications team.
Thanks to you — the members of our community — for your patience, cooperation, and understanding during these challenging winter conditions.
