We're cookin' up some special specials for Lent, but before we get into that, why does Lent start at a different time every year?
Well - 'tis based on Easter. In 325 AD, the Council of Nicaea decided to place Easter on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. Got it? Yep, me neither.
Breaking that down for 2017...
The vernal equinox this year comes on March 20 ('tis usually the 20th or 21st). Then, the next full moon after that is Tuesday, April 11. So - the first Sunday after that is Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017.
To get Lent and Ash Wednesday and, of course, Fat Tuesday, ya just count back about 46 days (there are 40 days in Lent, but Sundays don't count so ya gotta add them back in). And - there you get Ash Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
So - startin' promptly this Wednesday, you can start enjoyin' a few extra Lent-friendly items on our menu, available Ash Wednesdays and Fridays through April 14:
Blackened Shrimp Skewers
Ten large shrimp, skewered, blackened and served with
mixed vegetables and our herbed rice
Paddy's Shrimp O'Boy
Our take on the po'boy has crispy-fried shrimp with our
house-made slaw and chipotle aioli on a
hoagie bun with your choice of side
The Belly Buster Fish Sammich
An old fave is back with two big fillets of white fish
with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and a bit o'
tartar sauce with your choice of side
...'n of course, don't forget about our other Lent-friendly items
on our menu every day like our famous Fish 'n Chips.
'Tis gonna be another grand hoolie this year - 'n it falls on a Friday! Here's a 'lil sneak preview of the grand times to be had...
