Gerrymandering allows politicians to ensure their reelection by choosing voters rather than giving voters a meaningful choice. As a result,  control of Congress is systematically biased 7.5% in favor of the Republicans. Reform efforts so far have made little progress in Harrisburg. However, with the Pennsylvania legislature controlled by the Republicans and a Democratic majority in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, our state is in a unique position where both parties have something to gain by making our elections more fair.
Accordingly, a number of organizations including the Philadelphia Jewish Voice, Common Cause PA and the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania are forming the Fair Districts PA coalition to improve redistricting in Pennyslvania.
We will be holding a panel discussion on February 20 in Harrisburg at the PA Progressive Summit. Our panel speakers will be:
  • Suzanne Almeida, Exec. Director, League of Women Voters PA
  • Mary Jo Daley, Pennsylvania State Representative (District 148)
  • Stephen DeFrank, Chief of Staff for PA State Sen.Lisa Boscola
  • Daylin Leach, Pennsylvania State Senator (District 17)
  • Daniel Loeb, publisher of The Philadelphia Jewish Voice
The summit also includes debates among the Democratic Senate and Attorney General candidates.
Visit FairDistrictsPA.com for information on this important issue and how you can join our effort.
