ETHAN SELLERS MUSIC
APRIL 2026

Hey Everyone-

Now that my two consecutive “high seasons” (Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s) are in the rearview mirror, I have a relatively quiet spring in which to take care of household tasks, make headway on creative endeavors, and prepare for a busy summer of gigs (keep reading to the end).

This spring’s gigs are mostly private - solo acoustic performances for Sharing Notes, Irish wedding gigs with Character Fleadh, and Bourbon Aristocracy playing bluegrass for multiple Kentucky Derby Day parties - but read on to the end for the growing list of public summer gigs.

Tautologic - Wheels Fall Off

TAUTOLOGIC’S WHEELS FALL OFF TURNS FIVE!

Tautologic’s Wheels Fall Off was released 5 years ago, on April 2, 2021!

Here’s track one - “Wheels Fall Off (Intro)” - which features vocals by my children, Zeke and Naomi. Cute but dark.

Tautologic - West Is North, East Is South

TAUTOLOGIC - 25th ANNIVERSARY OF WEST IS NORTH, EAST IS SOUTH:

My rock band Tautologic’s debut album, West Is North, East Is South, turned 25 in June. I'm featuring a song from the album in each month's newsletter.

This month’s track feature is “Jeep.”

I had 5 influences in mind with “Jeep” - James Brown, Living Colour, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, and King Crimson. See if you can figure out which is where.

The lyrics to "Jeep" stem from the frustrations of apartment living. Domestic disturbances next door, the upstairs neighbors got robbed, and I had a friend that told me about being sexually assaulted. All of that had me in a dark place. All these years later, I still confront urban pathologies on a daily basis. My block is quieter and my neighbors are nice, but I don’t have to travel more than a handful of blocks to encounter these issues.

I would do this track differently nowadays. I’d make it less twitchy coked-out white guy funk, re-work the vocal, and cop more of a James Brown feel with the rhythm guitar. I would go for more live-band swagger throughout - especially the coda, where the heavy riff aims to bring out the bluesy intervals and feeling hidden in the diminished scale.

Speaking of Tautologic and live band swagger…:

TAUTOLOGIC WILL RETURN TO THE LIVE STAGE

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 5th. Tautologic will return to live duty at these two gigs...:

You can trace my (and Tautologic's) evolution through our albums - most of which are available on Bandcamp...
