 President's Corner

You have all heard it before, Money doesn’t grow on trees. I know, it technically does not grow on trees, but you know what I mean. Because capital is the one thing that new note businesses lack the most, you have to be cautious with your spending. Save every penny you can because you never know when you are going to need it. This may mean that you have to pay yourself less than you want or bargain down your vendor's prices even though your supplier is your best friend. Do whatever you can to save a buck. And don’t be shy because if you never ask, you’ll never receive. Remember, Success Demands Action! Keep on marketing, it’s going to work! TWITA!

Thankful for the Note Businjess

Question of the Week

Q - Hi Jeff,

I came across this type of business years ago late at night from an infomercial that ran a quite long time but never did it because I was very skeptical. They made it sound so easy but I figured they were just selling information just to make money. I recently started looking or something to supplement my income and came across your website and others as well. This business sounds good but from reading doesn't seem that hard. The only thing I can see that would be hard is locating people that own notes and that are will to sell them. I am from New York and not sure there are lots of people that own notes in this area. The bottom line and please be honest what does it take to be successful doing this and what are the best things to do in locating notes because I feel and just saying if it was easy to locate them companies really wouldn't need brokers to help them bring them business. Anyway, just looking for some feedback, thanks.

                                                       ~ Evan
A - Hi Evan!

Thanks for the email! With my 24 years in this business I will try to keep this short. This is a real business. It is simple but NOT easy. Finding note holders and getting them to contact you is 70% of your job. It is a BIG numbers game. AND just like any business that an individual wants to start it takes time, effort and money (for marketing).

There is nothing I can tell you or anyone else today so that you have an accepted transaction tomorrow. What I can and strive to do is to share my experience and knowledge to help you get through your own "school of hard knocks" faster, easier and with fewer knocks than I did.

Wherever you live, NY or CA or wherever has no bearing, we do business all over the United States it is NOT just a one state business. To survive and grow a note business you will have to market outside of your state. True end note investors use brokers to save themselves the expense of marketing (and trying to figure it out themselves), not easy. I still broker 90% of the notes that come across my desk and cherry pick the ones I want for myself.
