Next week we welcome Mike Clatworthy from Swansea to BPS, when he will be presenting his talk: Mono 2025.
This is what Mike says of his talk:
Mono images from 2025. My shutter count is about 10.000 a year, from this around 300 to 400 make it through to a finished image in both colour and mono. This talk is about the ones I feel worked best in mono.

Below are a few images from the talk to whet your appetite.

The next Digital Imaging Group Meeting will be on Monday 10 August at 7.30pm.
Meetings are informal and take place at the clubrooms and via zoom.
If you would like to share your images at the June meeting, please send them to me at dig@bristolphoto.org.uk ideally by Friday 7 August.
If you attended the practical evening for our photo walk around Montpelier on Mon 13th, it would be great to see some of your favourite images taken that evening.
Please number your images in the order you would like them to be viewed and resize to the usual competition size, not essential but helps to keep the files to a manageable size. If you could please restrict the number of images to a maximum of 30 this will ensure that we enjoy a wide variety of subjects.
I look forward to receiving your images.
Rachel Domleo.

Monday 10 August: 10.00am to 1.00pm - Mike is away on holiday, so Steve Field is stepping into the breach. This coming Monday will still be a model shoot, but a very special model shoot. As Mike is away, Steve is choosing his own models!
HMS Victory and HMS Endeavour will be the main guests. These are a challenge to photograph and for composite works. They will be closely supported by his latest aircraft builds - never before seen in the studio in their full glory! A challenging start to your creative photography journey. All welcome on one condition: you do not win more awards than Steve!!
Monday 17 August: More practice with our lights
Monday 24 August: Male model (Simon) booked for a morning and afternoon session. We were hoping to do a Peaky Blinders theme, but we’ve only got the flat caps! Does anyone have an outfit that would pass as a “Peaky Blinders” outfit? Let Mike know – Otherwise Mike will think of something creative!
- Morning 10.00am to 1.00pm all welcome - £10 per person
- Afternoon 1:15pm to 4:15pm - limited spaces, booking essential – contact Mike (mike_martin@blueyonder.co.uk). £15 per person
Monday 31 August: NO MEETING – Bank Holiday.
For any queries or bookings, please contact Mike Martin:

Poland Exchange Visit - Exhibitions to Enter |
Some members, particularly those who have attended the Studio Group, may know Dominika who has modelled here for us a couple of times – She is a member at Lodz camera club in Poland. They are a well-established club with their own gallery and regularly host print exhibitions. This year we’ve sent them a selection of accepted images from the Bristol Salon for them to display in their gallery during September. Their latest / current call for submissions is for images on the theme of “Colours of Summer in Square Format”. If anyone is interested in this or being added to their mailing list for entry into their future exhibitions, let Mike know ( mike_martin@blueyonder.co.uk) so he can forward details. (both Mike Martin and John Cato have previously had images included in their exhibitions).
You may have heard Mike mentioning twinning with Dominika's club. We are exploring the possibility of an exchange visit to Poland in spring 2027 with Lodz members acting as our hosts, followed by a return visit by their members to Bristol when we will act as their hosts.
Anyone that may be interested in the trip to Poland, please let Mike know so you can be included in discussions re potential dates, and arrangements.

Michael O'Sullivan - Trip to Africa |
We have received the following from Michael O'Sullivan which is self-explanatory:
We're going back to Kenya in 2027, and people have been asking me if I would organise group trips along with photo tuition (as required). I've managed to agree some really good rates with the suppliers that I use for our trips. We work only with Kenyan suppliers, and we organise our itineraries in such a way that it also benefits local communities and local conservation efforts.
The first itinerary we have ready is Masai Mara & Amboseli, and we can be flexible, but would be hoping to get a group who can go in July for peak migration in Masai Mara, and a group at end of September/start of October to coincide roughly with the migration around the last crossing, while the herds are concentrated in a smaller area in the South of the Masai Mara, with less vehicles in the way than at peak time. We also have plenty of experience of photographing the world-famous elephants in the Amboseli eco-system, and that is an amazing experience. We also include a location portrait session with some local Maasai. There are lots more details at the links below.
We are already going in January, and if anyone wants to come along in January, let me know ASAP. We are going anyway, but it works out more cost-effective with a group.
We are planning other options in the future too, and you can see what we are planning here, with more to be added:
For specific info on the Masai Mara - Amboseli trip, click on it in the page above, or see here:
We need 4 people to make each trip viable. If you have 4 people and want us to organise a custom trip, we can do that too. The joy of being freelancers! :-)

Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
|
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).
