The countdown is here! Three Monday rehearsals left before our concert! We've made such great progress to this point, and I'm excited about the work we have left.
Finding a little extra time to look at/listen to/practice with tracks to the music between rehearsals will help us all. I can't recommend strongly enough the benefit of following your music along with the videos on our website; especially some of the trickier pieces like "Peace of Wild things," "Defying Gravity," "Frog Went a-Courtin'," and "Skylark." We plan on performing "Boker" as one of our pieces at the Unitarian Church on 5/4, so give it a whirl as well!
As promised, here is a list of the typos we corrected last rehearsal in "Tarakihi":
m.9: Ko-Te-Ri-TE
m.16: KEI-Wa-Ho
m.17: Ho-Ki-MAI
m.23: -Ta-NGI-MAI
m.49: WHAI-A-Ke
Make sure they are labeled correctly in your score, and listen to the pronunciation tracks for any help needed.
Thanks as always for your dedication to this group, and making it such a joyful experience every week!

Mike is so efficient in his newsletter posts that this week I just get to be the cheerleader!
As one of the members who has had to miss several rehearsals, I want to express my appreciation that all of you have put in such a tremendous effort to learn the repertoire. It's difficult when you miss critical practice time and, speaking for myself, I was skeptical about being able to master the music in a timely manner.
We all know that Ross and Anna are our superheros. With them, we manage to accomplish a standard that often surprises us at concert time. Please know that you all are equally as important to those around you. By learning your own music you bring strength and support to those who might be feeling less confident.
I appreciate you and our Monday evenings together. I always leave with a smile..... and an earworm of one sort or another!
On a different note, please do all that you can to help spread the word about our concert. We strive for a full house and are estatic if we have to add more chairs so don't be bashful about inviting absolutely "anyone" to come enjoy the music. The admission is "free will" which means that everyone is welcome regardless of their ability pay; donations of any size are appreciated at the door. If we can reach outside our family circles we may even pick up some new members!
Be well and keep up the good work!
See you soon,
Sherrie

Concert Posters
Thanks to Kelly Doolittle, we have the attached poster for our May 17 concert. Copies will be available at next rehearsal. In the meantime, do feel free to distribute the attached image or print off copies for your use. We hit most local media, but person-to-person and organization-to-organization promotion is key to getting people through the door. You can help!
Your Input Please
At our Steering Committee meeting last month, we had much to feel good about. In our fifth semester after the pandemic hiatus, membership and finances are stabilizing, we are making fun and fine music again, and chorus members seem to be enjoying the experience. To help ensure continued success, we invite your input. We are reinstituting our Questions/Comments/Suggestions box which will be on the piano the next three Mondays. Please consider jotting a few comments about any aspects of chorus program or operations to help us plan for upcoming semesters.
Gibbons Youth Scholarship
Thanks to all contributing to the Gibbons Youth Scholarship that supports voice training for a promising high school student. Donations totaled $150.

Voice Exercises and Warmups... |
Looking for a way to exercise your voice between rehearsals? Cyberbass is free website that has sizeable list of vocal warmups that play on your computer, smartphone or tablet. You can also purchase CD's with various exercises and warmups if you choose. Go to

Practice tracks (https://acithaca.org/groups/voices/music-files-for-practice/) by vocal part are available at the Voices website for all but one of our songs for the semester. Mistakes do creep in during the creation of these files, so please note any you find and communicate which song, track, and measure(s) need correction. If you can specify the correction (e.g., missing note tie, wrong note, etc.), even better. Send corrections to voicesmusic@acithaca.org

|
As we learn and rehearse our songs each week, we will be given notes and corrections by the director. You may lightly mark your scores with a pencil - not a pen, marker or highlighter. Keep the pencil in the pocket of your music folder so it does not get misplaced. |

Nonconsensual Olfactory Overload... |
Please remember to avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, essential oils or other scents to rehearsals and concerts. We sit close together and some members experience respiratory discomfort when exposed to those smells and chemicals.
Showering is encouraged, of course. 😁

The Voices Newsletter is sent out every Thursday during the semester. Sometimes, it may be a day late depending on glitches and brain cramps. In normal times, it will appear in your email in-basket sometime during the day on Thursday. It will also be posted on the website - click HERE to go to that page.
If you have a question about Voices, a comment or suggestion about the newsletter, or if you have an item for the newsletter (items should be related to the chorus or the local musical community), send it to voicesnews@acithaca.org. PLEASE - if you have an item that you want to appear in the newsletter, send in in plain text completed form so we can copy and paste - we do not write material for you.
