JUST.EQUAL WELCOMES TRANS AND INTERSEX WORKPLACE BIAS PROTECTIONS
CALL FOR ACTION ON FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS AND SERVICES

Just.Equal Australia has welcomed Federal Parliament's enactment of workplace discrimination protections for trans and intersex Australians.

Today, Parliament passed a package of Government industrial relations reforms including amendments to the Fair Work Act protecting trans, andgender diverse people from workplace discrimination as well as protecting people with innate variations of sex characeristics.

 Just.Equal spokesperson, Sally Goldner, said,

"Just.Equal has been campaigning for this reform for several years and we are pleased it has passed."

"We raised concerns the Government's protection for people with innate variations of sex characteristics was too narrow, but we are pleased the Government has given a commitment to reviewing all such protections in Commonwealth law."

"Now we urge the Government to address another long overdue LGBTIQA+ discrimination reform, namely protecting us from discrimination by faith-based schools and servicies."

Ms Goldner said federal protections against discrimination by faith-based schools and services should be as comprehensive as those already in place in Tasmania and Victoria.

"We cannot accept reforms that allow continued discrimination under cover of "religious ethos".
