HUM Audio will launch the new N-Trophy mixing console at GearFest 2023

July 2023
Welcome to the July issue of <monitor input>

HUM Audio Designs will launch the new N-Trophy analogue mixing console at GearFest at TileYard this coming weekend.

HUM Audio's Krzysztof Tonn will be in attendance at the show and will be on hand to demonstrate and answer any questions on the new mixing console as well as their superb LAAL (Look Ahead Analogue Limiter).

We have booked a studio space at the show so we can properly demonstrate.

We will also have several ME-Geithain studio monitors hooked up as well as Gefell micophones and HUM Audio ribbon microphones.

We do hope to see you there at TileYard at the UK's only show dedicated to high quality studio sound.
You can find all information on GearFest HERE

To be launched on the 15th July at GearFest in London

N-Tophy - Analogue Mixing Console

This eagely awaited console will be shown for the first time at GearFest this coming weekend.
After the show it will be on show at KMR in London.

Available to order NOW - information on the N-Trophy is HERE

The HUM Audio N-Trophy is a high quality custom-built fully discrete analogue mixing console.

This mixing console will be custom-built to your requirements, from 0 to 64 channel strips, which gives you up to 136 inputs at mixdown. You can start with a small system and expand it at a later date as and when required.  All sections can be joined in any order you like and can grow with your studio as you need it.

As this is such a flexible console it will be built specially to your exact requirements by HUM Audio.

We will have a small demonstration console in the UK (on show at GearFest and will then on show at KMR in London) so you will be able to try out and audition what the N-Trophy is capable of.  Then, after talking with Sound-Link, we will put you in direct contact with HUM Audio to discuss your requirements directly so nothing can be "lost in translation".

Main features of a single channel:
  • MIC/LINE preamp based on legendary JE990 discrete opamp
  • Valve (vacuum tube) optical compressor with blending knob and S.C. filter
  • Passive EQ with separate frequency knobs for BOOST and CUT
  • THD stage with selectable distortion type (symmetrical and asymmetrical)
  • Custom made audio transformers
  • Switchable external insert with blending knob
  • ORDER switch to select order of Compressor, EQ and Insert
  • In-line structure with “B” Volume and “B” Pan knobs
  • 8 mono (4 stereo) AUX with selectable source (fader “A” or “B”)
  • 8 Group sends
  • Sifam VU meter with selectable source (incl. compressor G.R.)
  • DIRECT output with volume knob and source selector
  • Flying Fader automation with DAW controlling ability
  • (±24V) internal powering for very high headroom
  • Solid aluminium knobs, ALPS pots and gold-plated switches
  • 7cm wide channel for comfortable operation
  • Each channel has independent connection with summing stage in the master section. It allows the reduction of the summing bus lenght to only 5″ (12.5cm).
  • Custom configerable from 8 channel inputs up to a maximum of 64 channel inputs (in steps of 8 channels)
Also, as you see, the "identification strip" is above the fader, rather than below it to get obsured as you use the console.  This is one of my bugbears and it always annoys me when the strip is below the fader, rather than above.  A little thing, but HUM have done it right.  👍

Please contact us if you want to try it out !  We can bring the demonstration console over to you to evaluate in your own studio.

Launched last year and selling faster than they can make them them,
the LAAL will be with us at GearFest this coming weekend

LAAL - Look Ahead Analogue Limiter

The LAAL is creating lots of excitement.
Everyone who tries it says it is "magic" and "the best there is"
HUM tell us that it is selling faster than they can make it.

Available NOW - information on the LAAL is HERE

The HUM Audio LAAL is a high quality 2 channel Look Ahead Analogue Limiter.  It has a fully analogue (200 microseconds) delay line to obtain a “look ahead” ability. Thanks to this. the detection circuit is able to react to even the fastest peaks.

Another extraordinary feature of the limiter is the DYNAMIC TRANSIENT function. It regenerates transients proportional to the limiting level. In a few words, you can achieve great RMS with minimum side effects.

The final addition is a STEREO WIDTH circuit that works differently and is more musical compared to similar processors.

The first LAAL purchased in the UK went to Matt Colton at Metropolis Mastering who said:-
“The LAAL is the best analogue mastering limiter I’ve ever heard; punchy and fast, resulting in a smooth presence and brightness lift. The phase and centre image is absolutely rock solid, and it has bottom end for days.  It’s featured on the majority of my masters since I got hold of it.”

Audio Animals purchased two and said:
“One of the best limiters you will ever hear.  I’m actually blown by how good it sounds.”

We will have the LAAL on demonstration at GearFest and you can ask questions to one of the designers in person.  We have a demonstration LAAL in the UK which you can evaluate in your own studio.

ME -Geithain MO-1

We have often been asked about the small ME-Geithain MO-1 monitors so we have decided to get a demonstration pair for the UK.

Although these are small monitors they are still 2-way fully active monitors that sound the same as the larger RL series of studio monitors - so you won't be surprised when you play something monitored on the MO-1 on the larger ME-Geithain monitors.

Being small - only 198 x 146 x 160 mm in size - they are an accurate monitor with the only real limitation being that the bass end only extends down to 100Hz.

If you want to give them a try, please contact us.

We will have them on demonstration at GearFest this coming weekend along with the larger RL906 and RL934-K.

Details are here:-
MO-1   -   RL906   -   RL934K

Although we have been a bit quiet about Microtech Gefell microphones of late in these Newsletters it's only because they continue to sell well and they have not released any new microphones since the M 330 last year.

However, we will have a selection of Gefell microphones at GearFest this coming weekend and, as we have booked a studio space for our exhibition stand, we will be able to have some hooked up for you to try.

We do plan to have the CMV 563 /M7S there that, I have heard, gives the famous Neumann U47 a good run for the money.
