On 15 May, support conscientious objectors & other refuseniks in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus… everywhere!

Dear friends,

On 15 May, International Conscientious Objectors’ Day, we will be involved in two events – hope to see you there!

1pm – We will join the Ceremony for International Conscientious Objectors’ Day, Tavistock Square, London, called by peace & human rights groups (see flyer below).

3pm – We will deliver to the Delegation of the European Union to the UK a copy of an international petition signed by 45,000 people demanding protection & asylum in Europe for objectors & deserters from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Please join us at 32 Smith Square, London SW1P 3EU. (The original petition will be handed in to the European Union in Berlin and Brussels the same day.)

You can also express your support by

·        signing that petition now!

·        emailing the European Union’s politicians (see #ObjectWarCampaign below). Your support is critical. Please take a minute to send a message.

Demand protection for conscientious objectors from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine

By Connection e.V. (Germany)

Please Send an email to leading politicians of the European Union! - https://en.connection-ev.org/eMailAction-form

Thousands of people are being forced to fight a war they do not approve of. Help us now to remind leaders in the European Union of their words that these people need protection and support. More than a year ago, European Council President Charles Michel had already declared, "If you do not want to participate in the killing of your Ukrainian brothers and sisters ...then lay down your arms and leave the battlefield." Michel called on the EU to grant asylum to those soldiers who defy Russian deployment orders. These words must finally be followed by action.

In mid-May 2023, peace organizations from all over Europe will present a petition to the EU Commission to ensure that deserters and conscientious objectors from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine receive protection and asylum. So far, more than 34,000 signatures have been collected in support. These signatures are presented in a high-profile action on May 15 in Berlin and Brussels.

To strengthen the petition, we also need your help. Send emails in advance to Ursula von der Leyen, to Roberta Metsola and Charles Michel. They are responsible to implement regulations on the level of the European Union so that conscientious objectors from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine get safe ways to be protected from persecution, imprisonment and recruitment for war.

We have already prepared an email for this purpose, which you can easily send using the following form https://en.connection-ev.org/eMailAction-form.
