       When you start your own note business, you're certain to hear a lot of different advice. Most of it will come from people who don’t know the first thing about running a successful Note Brokering/Buying company. Turn to the internet, and you'll be overwhelmed by a multitude of articles and lengthy lists on the subject. Don’t make the mistake of over thinking and overanalyzing it all. A few simple steps now can start your note business down the path toward success.

       Begin with a detailed plan. This is a must: Develop an in-depth plan that fully details how you'll attack the challenge ahead. Your plan should define any opportunities you've identified, clearly state your mission, describe your target, establish measurable goals, and set deadlines for each milestone along the way. Remember that while it's important to have a plan, it's equally vital to be flexible enough to pivot when needed.

Q - Hi Jeff,

          If you were to fish for larger notes, where would you go? Do the banks take your calls relating to notes on their balance sheet that they might be forced to get off of their books?

A - Hi Jim!
         Thanks for the email! To answer your questions, I wouldn't (fish for larger notes) and I don't (contact banks), although they probably would take my call.  I have a niche that we have been working in since 1991 and I do not stray. That is not to say I have not done larger notes or worked with banks, I just do not go after them. Once in a while people contact me with things that I refer out to others that may be interested and I will definitely keep you in mind. Hope this helps!
