(corner of NE 18th & Burnside)

Thank you, friends and fans of Portland Story Theater!
First of all, we want to thank everyone who came to see our Valentine's Day show, Smitten.  It was a great run, and we made some wonderful new friends and fans.

In this day and age of computers and big-budget movies and special effects, it is very gratifying to know that people will still come out to see someone spin a tale, sharing the human experience face to face, eye to eye, and heart to heart. When we started PST in the fall of 2003, we hardly dared to imagine the packed houses and sold-out shows that we have seen over these last two seasons. Our deepest gratitude to all of you whose support and friendship and encouragement has not only kept our improbable dream alive, but has actually helped it thrive and grow.

April 24, 25, and May 1, 2, 8, 9
ZAP! POW! BAM! That's the sound of Portland Story Theater, singlehandedly changing the world, one story at a time. That's the sound of Portland Story Theater, bringing quality storytelling to an adult audience in Portland for the last five years. And that's the sound of our next production, coming right up: Singlehandedly.

Here's a taste of what you can expect to see at Singlehandedly:
  • Sharon Knorr will reprise her popular one-woman show, Why Can’t I Marry The Cute Beatle?
  • PST co-founder Lawrence Howard is stitching three coming-of-age tales into The Adventures of Huckleberry Howard.
  • Monologist Rick Huddle will perform Spent, a quirky solo piece about the current economic crisis.
  • Veteran Portland storyteller Will Hornyak splices classic Hungarian myth with personal tales about his wild, mis-spent youth.
  • Improv artist Brad Fortier shares his search for true love amidst the wanton fields of desire.
  • Puppeteer and storyteller Penny Walter brings us a montage of characters that weave together life's good, bad, and funny moments.
  • And solo performance artist Antonio Sacre joins us from LA to share a story of love gone bad in Burning Feathers.
There will be twelve solo performances over six nights. Each night will be a double feature: a single admission price gets you two full-length shows!

dark matter CD Release
PST's Lynne Duddy is pleased to announce that her popular one-woman show, dark matter, is now available on CD. dark matter weaves together some dark matter CD ... buy itof Lynne's deeply honest, intimate, personal stories with a bit of science, a bit of philosophy, a touch of history, and a couple of well-placed reflections and musings on the nature of the cosmos, all held together by the luscious soundscape of Portland's a cappella singing sensation, Emily Post. The Oregonian described Lynne's performance as "raw, revealing, vulnerable." Only $10 on CD Baby, or at the next Portland Story Theater show!

Shackleton CD Coming Soon...
Keep your eyes out for the release of Lawrence Howard's epic one-man show, Shackleton's Antarctic Nightmare, coming out on CD later this spring.

Armchair Adventurer Series
PST's Lawrence Howard is already hard at work on the research for the next installment of the Armchair Adventurer series. Next year, he plans to give Sir Ernest Shackleton a well-deserved rest while he tells the little-known tale of Douglas Mawson and the Australian Antarctic Expedition of 1911. Out exploring some 350 miles from their safe, warm, well-provisioned base camp, Mawson and Mertz were thrown into dire peril when their third companion, Ninnis, fell to his death in a deep crevasse, along with the six strongest dogs and the sledge carrying their tent, most of their equipment, and all but ten days worth of food. The story of their struggle to survive ranks right up alongside the Shackleton saga as an epic tale of heroic courage and fortitude.
World premiere in January, 2010.
