It was so good last year, we thought we'd bring it to you again... 'An ode to our favourite corner of Carnival' For the next installment of 'Up On The Roof', we thought we'd re-stage a little ode to our favourite corner of the biggest street party in Europe, prescribing not just the talents of one Carnival King, Good Times legend Norman Jay, after his 3 appearances for us last year and awesome May Day bank holiday slot, but also Notting Hill legends Sancho Panza, with founders Matt Brown & Jimmy K-Tel spinning after an extended Good Times 3 hour set from Norman.
Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston Eskimo Twins, Craig Bratley, Lloyd Wakeman, Rich Smith After 2 fantastic parties in the first half of the summer with Derrick Carter & Dimitri From Paris, Slide return to The Lambeth on Saturday 27 July, welcoming A Love From Outer Space, aka Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston, to headline the terrace alongside a great lineup over 3 spaces. Last year's party was our favourite summer Slide of 2012, if you didn't make it here's a little taster - https://vimeo.com/47652623 The manifesto of ALFOS is to never knowingly exceed 122bpm. Andrew describes it as “an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity”. Weatherall played a big part in moulding the UK's acid house scene in the late 1980s. He also produced one of the most pivotal albums of our generation, Primal Scream's "Screamadelica" and over the year's turned his skills to remix some of the most seminal artists around, including Grinderman, My Bloody Valentine, Bjork and Happy Mondays. His Two Lone Swordsmen and Sabres of Paradise monikers were both released on the iconic UK label Warp Records and remain hugely respected to this day. Sean Johnston has been DJing since his formative years in the frozen North. Acid House Veteran, Techno Survivor, Hardway Bros, Beard Scientist and Freelance Disco Consultant, his productions, alongside fellow Hardway Bros, Jake Davies and a mysterious South Londoner known only as Rico have graced Sabres of Paradise, Third Mind, Flashcomm and more recently Beard Science, Pointless Edits and cult Norwegian act Mungolian Jetset's label Luna Flicks. Support comes from Slide regulars and ALFOS favourites Eskimo Twins plus Craig Bratley and Scott Fraser, alongside Slide residents Lloyd Wakeman, Rich Smith and more. Up On The Roof with DJ Derek & Friends: In Association with Skylarkin Soundsystem Up On The Roof...summer parties on the stunning rooftop terrace at The Lambeth (formerly Brixton Clubhouse) right in the heart of Brixton. For a very special Up On The Roof on Sunday 4 August we have linked up with the fantastic Brixton Splash as one of the official parties for what is the 8th staging of the event. Splash is a free community street festival led by the local community. The event is aimed at celebrating the area’s diversity, its progress through the years and the fusion of the numerous ethnic groups that now call Brixton home. It is a celebration of peaceful relations, vibrant living in Brixton and Brixton’s contribution to the wider London culture. To reflect that we have plucked a cracking lineup in the spirit of Splash - Bristolian scene grandaddy DJ Derek heads things up alongside the legendary Don Letts, Trojan Soundsystem’s Earl Gateshead, Count Skylarkin’ and local roots/reggae band The Drop play live in the club. Get Diverted with Mario Basanov & The Revenge Get Diverted's annual August Bank Holiday Saturday shindig is headlined this year by the excellent Mario Basanov & The Revenge. Gilles Peterson...Up On The Roof Gilles joins us back 'Up On The Roof' after the sell out August 2012 party, alongside The Reflex, Madera Verde, D.Vyzor and more tba. Slide On The Terrace w/ Hot Chip (Felix + Al) DJ set + Guests Hot Chip's Felix and Al join us for the 4th time and the 2nd time in Brixton, alongside guests tba. |
