Local Government Candidates Urged to Respond to LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Survey

Equality Tasmania is urging local government candidates to show their support for LGBTIQA+ inclusion by filling out the group's local government candidate survey.

The survey seeks candidate views on a range of issues including inclusion policies and consultation with local LGBTIQA+ communities.

Equality Tasmania board member, Anthony Crawford, said,

“Local government plays a really important role in fostering inclusion at a grassroots level.”

“That’s why we have seen several Tasmania municipalities develop LGBTIQA+ action plans.”

“LGBTIQA+ Tasmanians are keen to know which candidates will work proactively for inclusion and equality.”

“According to the Bureau of Statistics, almost five percent of the Tasmanian electorate are LGBTIQA+ and it’s important they are informed about how candidates will approach our issues.”

Tasmanian municipalities that have developed and released LGBTIQA+ action plans include Kingborough, Glenorchy, Hobart, Burnie and Launceston.

The Launceston Plan was unanimously endorsed by the Council last week.
