of the Month
"I sooooo look forward to your monthly newsletter- it's really educational in so many ways! And your writing is SO good!"
Carol Dandeson

Hello and Welcome-

Well, 2011 sure come in like a lion, hasn't it! With so much bad weather in so many areas of the country, I'm hoping everyone has gotten a lot of sewing done, since outside activities are out of the question!  We've been hard at it, trying to finish up our new pattern for Spring, but we've still managed to spend a little time with our adorable grandson. So click here to see our latest video of him, then come on back and we'll get started.   :)

If you have comments or suggestions about our Newsletter, or if you just feel like telling us something, please feel free to do so at info@studiokatdesigns.com

Feline Quote for February-
"When I play with my cat, how do I know that she is not passing time with me rather than I with her?"  Montaigne

Denise Stahl of Santa Rosa, CA submitted THREE bags this month. First, this AbracaNiche (with matching wristlet), was a gift to her oldest daughter whose favorite story in 'Alice in the Looking Glass'. Here's a closeup of the Flap area.

This Vervalise, (also made by Denise) was a Christmas present for her younger daughter who only likes minimalist purses, if she carries one at all. I bet she flipped over this!

This gorgeous Carolina CarryAll was made up in Debbie Mum fabric which Denise found on Ebay. This bag was a gift for a close friend who saw the pattern on my website and fell in love with it on site. Evidently her friend is a total debbie Mum devotee, so she LOVED her bag. Gee, I'm wondering if Denise ever gets to keep a bag for herself?

Lee Franklin of Oldsmar, FL created this fabulous DittyRoo for a family friend. She was told that the recipient actually cried when she saw it, isn't that cool? Lee added that she loved the downloadable tutorials for this bag, which were especially helpful.

This denim Lollapalooza was sent in by Audrey Campbell of College Place, WA and she says it is her favorite bag so far! She used some leftover floral denim and added a pocket to the outside. Here's a closeup of the cool buttons that complete the look just perfectly!

Ann Bergin of Harahan, LA was the creator of this stunning Trifecta. She bought the fabric at what turns out is the ONLY quilt shop left in New Orleans after the city was devastated in 2005. She says all of her quilting buddies just LOVE and so does she! (I can see why!) Before you go on, check out the incredible INTERIOR!

And didn't Cheryl McCavitt of Kansas City, MO, do an outstanding job of following the DittyRoo embellishing tutorial for her bag? She got most of her batik fabrics at Keepsake Quilting and her colors are wonderful. Cheryl says she's only been sewing for a year, but whipped this bag up without problems. She loves the dual entry front pouch and finds that even with a zippered top, that the bag design keeps the contents from falling out!

This Harmony Handbag is really a unique lunch emsemble Janet Gallant of Queensbury, NY created for her niece, who is a teacher. The bag and accessories are lined with a thermal insulate batting. Janet says that now her niece can go to lunch in style everyday!

This incredible DittyRoo was made with imitation leather by Lisa Garner of Maricopa, AZ. Cheryl said that the trim work was a bit of work because it was VERY stiff and had to be sewn in place by hand and the machine embroidery on the Pouch front was done with metallic thread and hot fix crystals. The effect is quite breath-taking, don't you think?

And last, bur certainly not least, we have Sandi Snow of Tampa, FL who thought the DittyRoo pattern was the ideal format to showcase the ladies on this fabric. (Click here to see the back.) She says she's had a blast carrying the bag and that she enjoys seeing people's reaction to it!

Bobbin' Along the Web- eQuilter.Com    NEW!

Living in rural North Carolina, I sometimes have difficulty finding the fabric and notions I need. So I thought I would start this new topic and share some of the webstores that I love to shop at. Do YOU have a favorite source? Drop me a line, and I'll share it in an upcoming newsletter!
eQuilter.Com is a terrific source for all types of fabric. Whether you're shopping for fashion fabrics, batiks, or quilter's cottons, you'll find a great selection here. You can even find designers like Laurel Burch, and Jane Sassaman, (two of my favorites). But what I love best is the Designer's Board, where you drag little thumbnails of your fabric choices together to see how they blend. It's fabulous!

Monthly Trivia-
Today is February 6th. It's the 37th day of 2011, and there are 328 days remaining. This is the start of a really BIG week in New York City, because it's the start of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Can you imagine how it is at Lincoln Center just about now, trying to get ready for Fashion Week to begin on the 10th, while also dealing with the 4th blizzard of the century! Having worked in Public Works for 30 years, I really feel for the poor workers of New York's Public Works division (and those of many other big cities), who have just 'weathered' one of the roughest winters on record,
But fashion stops for no one, and if you'd like to keep up with the pictures from this year's Fall 2011 Fashion Week, click here, (and come back regularly to this site, because pictures will be continually added as the week progresses).
And if you smell burning candles, it's because there are SO many people celebrating birthdays today. Bob Marley, one of the most popular & influential performers of reggae music, was born on this day in 1945. Click here to hear a great example of Bob's unique style. He shares his special day with no other than the "Babe" himself, Babe Ruth, the 'Sultan of Swat', Journalist Tom Brokaw, and our 40th president, Ronald Reagan.
And if you share your birthday with this impressive group of people, here's a great BIG 'Happy Birthday to YOU" from StudioKat Designs, and if today is not your birthday, you can celebrate today anyway, by doing a little 'jammin' of your own, but perhaps to your own favorite style of music.
So here's hoping that by the next newsletter (March 6th) that we're all enjoying an EARLY Spring!  :)

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
