After
11 years as the editor of this newsletter I am looking
to hand over the editorship of the PON to someone
interested in looking after this vital source of
community information.
As the
editor you need to have a keen interest in the
offshore community, be engaged with it and most of all
be committed to carrying on the great tradition (65
years) of providing relevant and timely information to
the offshore community. You
will need to know about creating online media,
utilizing and manipulation of images and text to suit,
a working knowledge of HTML and CSS and understand
general editing principles, with the ability to
research information as required.
You also need to be sure of the following; be
committed, as some information has to be published
sooner than later no matter what; patient and
impartial, as the PON is not an outlet for personal
opinions or biases; be interest in keeping the
newsletter relevant and up-to-date, and be able to
manage its associated online Facebook/Twitter pages.
The
plan is to have transition/hand-over period of 3
months which allows sufficient time for the successor
to become familiar and comfortable with the processes
involved in bringing our newsletter out.
If you
are interested and would like to find out more about
this then please contact me at editor@scotlandisland.org.au

NBN SUBMARINE CABLE INSTALLATION
August to October 2020
NBN have advised drilling operations on bore
shot work will include Saturdays and Sundays for the
next four weeks.
- There are a number of reasons for extending their
work hours to 7 days a week (Mon-Fri7am-6pm,
Sat-Sun8am-5pm): Reduce risk of
frack out on environment. Some drilling operations
require continued drilling in excess of 50 metres
into rock with drill lengths exceeding 200m. Halting
drilling operations for long periods of time, such
as a weekend, increases the risk of significant
ground pressure on a static drill rod that can frack
out, leading to an uncontrolled release of drilling
fluids into the environment.
- Reduce the risk of drill rods snapping with
start/stop operations (and thereby reducing events
of downtime)
- Specialised workforce from Queensland - reduces
the overall time staff are away from home with the
current need for 14 days quarantine on return.
Safeguard and mitigation measures:
- Best efforts will be made to minimise vehicle
movement.
- Some temporary disruptions to trail access may be
necessary at times for safety reasons. Where
temporary access disruptions are required, these
will be identified in advance and signage provided.
- Surrounding residences directly affected by the
works will be notified in advance of the proposed
commencement of works and the duration of the
construction period.
- On completion of the works, all vehicles,
construction equipment, materials, and refuse
relating to the works will be removed from the work
sites and any adjacent affected areas. Work sites
will be restored to their original condition as soon
as possible following the completion of the proposed
works.
- Machinery and vehicles will not be left running or
idling when not in use.
The map below shows
the location of the bore shots and the order in which
the work will be done.
The 1st location being at Elvina Point, commencing
this Fri 28 Aug

Offshore Waste
Services Review
Council are conducting a review of offshore waste
services. This includes garbage, recycling, bulky goods
and vegetation collection.
If you're a resident of Pittwater's offshore communities,
or if you use the public wharves in some way, they’re keen
to hear your thoughts on the services. They’re also
interested in your ideas, big or small, for how they can
be improved.
Please take a few minutes to complete the online survey.
If you have questions about the online survey or if you
wish to receive a hard copy of the survey, please contact
the Waste Services team by email or 1300 434 434.
Your local input will help Council plan for future
processes.
Survey closes Sunday 20 September 2020.
It is that time of year again.
Payment for Church Point Parking Permits is due.
The Council does not send personal reminders about this.
A new 20-21 sticker should be displayed on your car by 1st
September to avoid fines.
The cost of a permit this year is $510.

Sunday 13th September: Frank Sultana Blues
Machine and Frank Sultana
The Co-Op welcomes for the first time FRANK SULTANA on his
national ‘Don’t Sugarcoat It’ single tour. Laced with
organ and pedal steel guitar the single builds from a slow
burn to glorious, modern soul and early 70s inspired
drums.
Awash with vintage guitar tones and primitive rhythms,
Frank Sultana’s raw soulful voice bleeds with the
experience of the characters he writes and sings about -
In one breath, his songs are dark and dirty, joyous and
hopeful.
Frank is a storyteller in the traditional sense, inspired
by greats like Ray Charles and Bob Dylan, as well as
Mississippi blues pioneers like Skip James and Son House.
He’s released 4 albums and 3 Eps and has become a
permanent fixture on Australia’s live scene, earning a big
reputation as a powerhouse singer and gifted songwriter.
Frank has shared the bill with many great artists,
including Gary Clarke Jnr, Tony Joe White, Canned Heat,
and the New Power Generation, Ian Moss, The Whitlams, The
Backsliders, Russel Morris, Diesel, James Reyne, The
Fumes, Kingswood, Dallas Frasca, Mojo Juju, Busby Marou,
Kira Puru and many many others.
He treads a well worn path between Melbourne and Brisbane,
touring both as a solo artist (often incorporating stomp
box and looper) or with a band, and has racked up over 100
shows in 2019 in NSW, VIC, QLD and NZ.
His latest album ‘The Blues Diaries Volume 1 Moama to
Macleay’ was released in May, and his new single ‘Don’t
Sugarcoat It' will be released in March 2020.
Sun 20th September: The NLB!
The NLB! Don’t miss the The Co-Op’s sell out house band.
Every month is a full house, come and find out why!

R&B gospel blues voice covering some of her favorite
artist, from Bill Withers to Beth Hart. Narelle is backed
by Andrew Snow on guitar and vocals, Jason Smith on bass
guitar, Aiden Danser on the Nord/keys, and Chuck Bradley
in the engine room.
No doubt tables will fill quickly, so grab yours &
join us for a fabulous afternoon of great music!
Sunday 27th September: DANNY TSUN’s Rhythm
Revue feat: Pat Powell
DANNY TSUN’s Rhythm Revue feat: Pat Powell. Danny captures
the sound of Motown, Funk & Soul. He plays Hammond
keyboard with it’s unique ‘Leslie’ speaker – (one of the
definitive sounds of the Motown recording era) as featured
at the Johnnie Johnson Jazz & Blues Festival in West
Virginia USA in 2011 and 2016. The Rhythm Review relives
these great flamboyant, soulful and emotive classic
sounds.
Danny’s musical love is to recreate his hero’s JERRY LEE
LEWIS, JON CLEARY, JAMES BROWN and THE ALLMAN BROTHERS.
Come & join the Sunday fun for a very Soul-filled
afternoon!.
The Waterfront Café’s Co-Op Club presents the finest live
music North side of the bridge from 3.30pm every Sunday.
