Quote of the Week

What we think determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds.
                                                              ― Wayne Dyer

President's Corner

Spring is finally here and I’m not going to talk about spring cleaning but over the next couple weeks I do want to concentrate on Communication.  Many of us have our communication styles so ingrained that we don’t even realize the bad habits we’re engaging in. That’s why I want to draw attention to this issue give you with five tips (one each week of April) that may help you to be a better communicator – and a better note professional!  The fourth of the five tips – Parrot back.  If you want to make sure that the person you’re talking with knows that you’re listening, or if you aren’t exactly sure what they mean by something, one great way to find out is to paraphrase what they’ve just said or “parrot back.” Here’s an example: “So it sounds like you’re saying that you need me to provide you with both a full purchase option as well as a couple of partial purchase options.” This shows your listener that you’re trying to be conscientious and, even if you misinterpreted their words, will win you points – and if you didn’t understand correctly, it gives them a chance to clarify and prevent mistakes.  Remember, Success Demands Action! Keep on marketing, it’s going to work! TWITA!

PS - If you are attending the Paper Source Note Symposium in Las Vegas this week, make sure you bump into me and say hi!

You simply have to avoid the common mistakes that can lead to waste.  Direct mail has two major drawbacks: It can be expensive and difficult to carry out without misstep. However, if a direct mail marketing campaign is implemented correctly, it can be very lucrative.  To succeed, you simply have to know where the pitfalls might be, do your homework, and be persistent... Question of the Week

Q - Hi Jeff,

You said in a previous question and answer email that if you are in CA you must have a RE Broker's license to do notes at all.  I do not have a broker’s license in any state.   I live in TN.  I have received calls from note holders in CA. Would I need to get a CA broker’s license in order to broker CA notes. Thank You.

                                                   ~ John

Hi John!

Thanks for the email! I am not a licensing expert but from what I know to broker a note secured by CA real estate you are supposed to have a CA RE Broker's license.   Here is an article I wrote that explains it all -  CA Licensing Issue. Hope this helps!

                                                    ~ Jeff
