Hi there!
Welcome back to another episode of what’s happening (Hey,
hey, hey.) at Dearly Departed Tours. Mike Dorsey and I have been working to promote the Dearly Departed Podcast. Thanks to the positive feedback we’ve been getting, we’ve been asked to be interviewed quite a bit recently. We were on
Coast to Coast and spoke about some of the weird and wonderful people cover in the podcast. If you subscribe to the show through
this link, you can listen to the broadcast. My Aussie friends: Mike and I are scheduled to appear on the morning show TODAY on the 24th. I can never finger out the time difference - we are scheduled to be on at 3pm California time. Maybe you can catch us - live-esque. We were also interviewed for
TV Grapevine.
Last Saturday, I was part of the panel of speakers at
LA’s Most Haunted, an event hosted by the
Valley Relics Museum. My foxy foxy friend
Bridget Marquart served as hostess and she was just as ginchy as ever. Other panelists included Craig Owens, Lisa Morton, Mark L. Marinaccio, Patti Negri, Kristen Luman and Katie Burr. It was an eclectic panel of speakers and I was happy to participate. There were some terrific revelations of haunted locations around LA.
DDT is hosting a series of Halloween and deathy stuff for the month of October, and we'd love it (and prefer it) if y’all came out to support the shop. On
THIS SATURDAY October 19, at 5pm, we are having a book event with authors
Jeff Abraham and
Burt Kearns, who will discuss and sign copies of
The Show Won't Go On! This is a book about performers who physically
died while on stage. You can indulge and will not be judged... because we love you just the way you are. (Hat tip to Mr. Rogers. Dead.) I will be dusting off my
Tiny Tim and
Karl Wallenda items to show off too. See you there!
Details.

Our
Rocky Horror Picture Show Night is Tuesday October 22 at 7pm. As many of you know I have a loooooong history with this movie and I love sharing my enthusiasm with others. I will talk about my adventures while writing the book about the movie I love so much. I've never been asked to share my stories, so I'm doing it myself. Plus a show-and-tell presentation of artifacts. Tickets for this event are
available here. Hey, Scottys!
Whatever happened to Fay Wray?
SHE'S ACROSS THE STREET!
We’re doing our annual Horror Movie Locations Tour this month with guide Richard Sebastian, who's been with Dearly Departed longer than anyone else (well, except me). This tour has a couple of fun photo ops in addition to seeing where your favorite horror movies were filmed. Because you want to go, a lot, we’re helping you out by providing the
link here.
Yesterday I recorded an episode of the
True Crime Daily Podcast in Burbank. These guys are so interesting and I really enjoyed getting to talk about horrible "normal" people for a little while. The episode will go LIVE tomorrow - and an extra
YouTube feature will accompany where we delve into Anton LaVey - the founder of the Church of Satan (and his stupid Mansfield curse). If you follow my
Facebook page, you'll hear it first.
True Crime Daily Hosts Owen Michael, Billy Jensen and Jabba
On Monday October 28 I'll be speaking at the
Whittier Public Library in Whittier, CA (weird how that works out). They've asked me to speak about the
Horror Film Stars and True Crime Stories. Me. Speaking in a proper library. Not getting shushed. Call me Mister Fancy Pants! I'll talk about Bela, Elsa, Charles, and a whole lot more - I might even bring show-and-tell items from our Artifact Museum. Information
here.
Don’t forget that
Jill Marie Morris is hosting a Halloween version of her
Hollywood Ever After event on October 26 at the shop. She’ll talk about and
with legends of horror, including the Lons (Chaney Sr. and Jr.), Alfred Hitchcock, Carolyn Jones, Bela Lugosi (he's a popular guy!), Vincent Price and more. Tickets
here.
Finally, a bit of news about the Dearly Departed Tours & Artifact Museum—we’ve changed our days of operation to four days a week instead of seven. We're now open Thursday-Sunday, 11-5. Our tours will remain the same ones you know and love, they just won't run as often. Please stop by and say hello!
Love,
Scott and the Dearly Departed Team
Oh! The kooky bit. Stop by our Artifact Museum and say hello to Addams Family star Ken Weatherwax. In person!
