John Seed Asks Our Help to Protect Indigenous Homeland and Elephant Habitat in India
My old friend, singer and rainforest activist John Seed (we sing together on our album At Night They Howl at the Moon: Environmental Songs for Kids), is working to protect a forested mountain in India that is home to the Dongria Kondh people as well as serving as a refuge for the elephant, sambar, leopard, tiger, barking deer, various species of birds, and other endangered species of wildlife. The sacred mountain, which has been protected for generations, is being threatened by a giant mine. Please send a brief email asking to protect the mountain (see link below). Our international voices can help save this indigenous homeland and endangered elephant habitat.
Cow Bus For Sale!
(Raising $ to Reprint the Cows With Guns Book)
Yes friends, I’ve decided to put the Cow Bus up for sale. A painful decision, but the reality is that I’m not using it these days (flying to many gigs...need a Cow Jet...). The Cow Bus deserves to be able to roam free once again, sniffing the gentle scent of sagebrush after a cool desert rain.
Several of my friends have pointed out that the Cow Bus would make the ultimate Burning Man vehicle (http://www.burningman.com/). So I’m hoping that some art car appreciator will give the Cow Bus a new happy home. I’ll use the funds to reprint the Cows With Guns book. See the Cow Bus blog page for more info & photos (http://cowbus.wordpress.com/).
Price: $24,371.72 (firm). That’s what it costs to print 10,000 copies of the illustrated Cows With Guns book, no kidding!
Hope to see you at one of the shows,
Dana

Stillaguamish Festival of the River & Pow Wow Price: Free ($5 parking per car per day; festival runs August 14 and 15)
I love this festival. Mixing a Pow Wow, logging show, environmental education booths, and music, this event is classic Western Washington culture. One year I was in the middle of performing "The Tree," with the drums of the Pow Wow going on in the background, when a chain saw cranks up about 50 feet from the stage starting the logging show. It's the only time I've laughed while performing "The Tree."
A river to swim in, a Pow Wow to dance at, music to rock out to, study up on how to protect the forest while watching the logging show. Americana at its finest. http://www.stillaguamish.nsn.us/festival.htm
