Dear Dancers, I am so happy to be co-offering this event with Shanah Rivers. This is a call from the heart: join us in a most beautiful, poignant and much needed Community Grief Ritual. The roots of the ritual are from the Dagara Tribe in West Africa and Shannah is in the unusual position of being blessed and supported to offer this work. Movement and dance will offer us an anchore and resource as we loosen what is ready to be released. However the ritual itself has its own form that holds, contains and allows us to grieve. Many of us are so used to carrying our sorrows that we barely notice any more... there can be a weight, a deadening or feeling of restriction in our life, there can be a tendency to take flight or fill ourselves with miriad distractions and addictions because we just don't quite have a place or a way to be with the grief. There are many many kinds of grief, we live in such challenging times there is much we hold in our hearts just by being human at this time on earth. Opening to the grief opens us to life and the liberation of the energy it takes to carry the weight of unexpressed grief, we can be lighter, more able to respond, more able to live, this is the alchemy of grief. So, those of you who know me a little will know how important I hold the principles of safety and integration and how hard I continue to study to understand trauma...this is also important in this ritual, that we each are supported to go safely where we are ready to go....less can often be more. Moving as a community into ritual and into the grief has so many benefits, it can mean we can touch what we may not be able to touch when we are alone.
